Was told that this firmware is available on KM Japanese website but couldn't locate it. Can someone help provide the link.

KM Singapore currently has v1.02 if anyone is interested. ;p

Someone's gotta translate the instructions first though :what:

Thanks Xaler, got my firmware upgraded to v1.02e at KM Sgp. Said to fix compatibility issues with high speed SD cards. So far, noticed improvement in speed and AF with v1.02e. Hope KM will keep on providing new firmware for the Z3. :) :)

I decided to be a little brave and update the firmware on my own by blindly reading the Japanese instructions!

Using absolutely nothing but agar-logy, I tried by luck. I downloaded the file and un-compress it onto the SD card. So now there 2 files on the SD card (one .bin file and one .app file) plus the default folder, DCIM.

I switched off & unplugged the camera from the PC. Took out the batteries then put it back (basically a hard-reset). Switched it on while pressing the shutter-release button (not sure if this is required but what the heck). If it screws up then I'll go down to the service center :o

The red LED lit up for a while and then it goes off... nothing happened. Then I switched it on again. This time it turns on normally  Checking the firmware version, it's v1.02e :D

Hi Xaler, can kindly give the step-by-step procedure in point form? ;)

Okay, I don't actually understand Japanese. I just browsed through the pictures and guessed the procedures. The below isn't a translation of the instructions but the steps of what I did. Well, here goes...
  1. Download ver1.02 from website
  2. Open/run the downloaded file and when asked, save files to a temporary folder
  3. Plug DiMAGE Z3 into computer via USB cable.
  4. There are 2 files in temporary folder (DSC.APP & RAM.BIN), copy them to the SD card.
  5. There should now be DSC.APP, RAM.BIN and a DCIM folder in the SD card
  6. Unplug Z3 from computer--please don't JUST pull the USB cable out! e.g. I'm using a Mac, so I drag the SD folder to the recycle bin to "eject" it first. For PC users, you'll have to right-click on that "unplug" icon on the taskbar and select device to remove.
  7. Take batteries out and put them back in--simply a hard reset.
  8. Switch on Z3 while holding down shutter-release button
  9. Wait until Red Light goes off. Then press Power-On button again to turn camera on.
  10. Ta-da! v1.02

The website lists v1.02j. I got a v1.02e. I suppose "e" stand for e-nglish :)

The 'e' in the firmware does not stand for English. 'e' is the version for cameras sold in Europe and 'u' for the United States. Do be careful. ;)

So, for locally-purchased units(Singapore), which 'letter' should I opt for? 's' for Singapore?! Haha!

So, Konica Minolta Singapore uses the 'Europe' firmware?...

It would make sense... America is always doing things differently. Japan, well, not many people here understand Japanese. We're only left with Europe, good thing it sticks to international standards ;)

hey man.. how about Z2 firmware?? where to chk out??

Actually what really happens when we update the firmware of the camera via the SD card? I'll like to know the details. & will frequent updating of firmware spoil the camera itself?

Firmware are released to correct minor defects that were overlooked during initial production of a new camera model. Your camera should therefore perform better with each new firmware update. No side effects if you do it as per instructions, but to play safe, have the people at KM do it for you foc. ;)

I performed the firmware-update on my own; adhering to the published instructions, the update was successful. Btw, will the following scenarios result in a reset of camera?:

1. Storing the camera without batteries installed for any period of time? (or only the clock's lost, altered settings remained?)

2. Firmware update? (are all altered settings wiped/erased? As in the ALL the camera's setting(which one've painstakingly setup) are reverted to default?)

Not sure about #1 but #2 will set you back to default.

Thanks for the instruction.

Oh, by the way, I had found the English version at the USE website.

http://www.minoltausa.com/eprise/ma...are/CPG_SoftwareDetail/DM_Z3_Firmware_102_Win

Unfortunately, both the instructions & firmware download is unavailable at this site anymore. Accessing this site'll display a "SilkRoad Participant Server Error 404 The page you are trying to view was not found in the Content Center." error.

Any other alternatives for people who still wanna access the instructions & firmware?

I think Minolta USA just revamp their website. The new location is at

http://kmpi.konicaminolta.us/eprise.../cam_product_pages/DiMAGE_Z3?mDetail=Software

or
