Fireworks on 23th,24th August YOG Closing Rehearsals?

Possible location:

esplanade waterfront - MBS as background

esplanade bridge - blocked with canvas

Merlion water front - Firework directly above MBS (wide angle lens is a must)

along One Fullenton waterfront - wide angle lens is recommended

Cliffer pier - Firework will be above floating platfrom. May capture MBS, Flyer and floating platfrom as background or esplanade to Flyer.

Marina waterfront - esplanade to Flyer as background. Wide angle lens not needed. Space is limited.

Marina barrage - not recommend as fireworks are in line with MBS.

MBS waterfront - CBD as background, wide angle lens maybe required unless Fullframe.

Helix brigde - one fullenton to NTUC building as background. Will be able to capture main fireworks and small fireworks from NTUC building and others, wide angle lens is required to capture fireworks from buildings.

When the about location required wide angle lens, it means lens that are under 17mm. If yours are 17mm above than find a location that doesn't need wide angle lens. Statement Not applicable for Full frame.

Good luck.

dont mind me ask but where u got the info?

Base on my experience taking NDP rehearsal, NDP, YOG rehearsal, YOG opening and so on. I like to explore and take fireworks from different location.

One more thing to add:

Esplanade waterfront and Helix brigde - Firework will reach max 2 and 1/2 height of MBS.
See sample: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._421007764050_529924050_4884269_7110287_n.jpg

Merlion waterfront, One Fullenton waterfront and MBS waterfront - Fireworks will reach max 3x height of MBS

Cliffer pier and Marina waterfront - Firework will reach max 2x height of MBS

This will give you a rough guide of how much sky to allow for fireworks. There is no need to capture too much water as you will not get an image of the fireworks reflecting on water. But NOTE MBS will give you a nice reflection of the fireworks depending of your location.

Nope taken during NDP. YOG has firework infront and behind MBS. But result will most likely be the same because your distance is too far away which make the firework lower.

~~~1010pm ah.......thanks mate!!

think i gotta change my plans of asking OC to tag along.....else i may end up being deaf after the night :bsmilie:

that was for the opening, for closing, according to mediacorp is 9:30pm.

i asked ericlin81 cos the info i have is very diff from he has.
oh well.good shoot~! :)

@iAltair - yap, your location if i am not wrong is at Cliffer pier or marina waterfront right? that is why it is max 2x height of MBS.

@syc77 - nice balance of exposure between background and fireworks. Wouldn't it be better if the fireworks is above MBS and not cutting MBS? That is why i dont recommend taking fireworks from MBS.

Ideally the best shot of firework in my opinon is infront of one fullerton to Cliffer pier. But you may need wide angle lens.

Ya... It's does cut into MBS but I don't mind. A bit bored of the usual spots most ppl go.
I don't think there's a best spot for this fireworks. It's just wat u want to capture in ur frame.

really sad to say but the fireworks for the closing is a epic disappointment to me =X

Marina Waterfront.

They closed the Helix, and actually the view from Helix was almost blocked by either the incomplete museum or the stage.

MBS waterfront directly in front of shopping mall is partially blocked by the construction.

Still, I feel, for YOG, the 'best' location is at either merlion or one fullerton. Shoot the MBS as back ground. But a bit boring to see all the same fireworks from same location ;)

Yap, agree. I was at one Fullerton. The firework was like ****. They just throw everything up all at once. Only the first shot of firework is ok. Good to look at, bad for photographers. Actually I intend to go up to the top of Fullerton bay hotel - lantern bar but someone book the whole place liao, if not than that is another good place to take fireworks.

dont think lantern bar will allow deployment of tripods.
