In some locations depending on where you go - you have 1 day (or rather in this case, 1 night) tour that would bring you out to look for aurora. How they do it i won't really know since I did not join, but i have seen ads (in Rovaniemi) that would do that for around Euro150 (or more) for 4 - 5 hours, and in some tours, they would combine 2 activities together such as skidoo + aurora.

I also know that if you do some google-ing, there are some very small companies that would take you on 3 - 4 days full board and the actual activity is just for hunting for aurora (they do some light day activity like husky sled ride, reindeer farm, etc), where they would bring you out for that few night to find auroras (if it does not appear above your lodging) and those might go further up north where temperature could hit -45 deg or even -55 deg if the weather turns colder.

i love snow too.. and i love travelling in winter too.. but yes, -28 deg is v differnt from -20 deg
btw.. since its a family trip, i was on a sg tour agency..
but like wat Alpc has mentioned, there are lots of local tours that can bring u out for the aurora..
