Final Cut VS Premiere Pro

Ya.. premiere can still do lots of decent editing
generally, Broadcast > FCP or Avids... Corporate > Premiere. vegas no comends cos never use b4 :embrass:
well, of cos can use for vice versa..
all boils down to skills ba??
:)

I think user friendly wise, Premiere is still better. (Maybe its because im biased...haha..)

There are some little things in Vegas that are different from Premiere when it comes to cutting and transitions. When you apply a transition in Vegas, the transition cuts into the footage between both clips. Whereas in Premiere, extra footage from the clip itself which you did not leave on the timeline is used.

Of course, these are just little things but i personally feel that vegas is definitely better when it comes to transitions and effects. (both video and text)

However, when doing straight cuts, i would prefer Premiere. Then i'll use Vegas to add on text effects ;)

May I know if FCP rendering depends on the grpahics cards or just the processor? I m PC user thinking of switching n it seems a decent setup for Mac Pro is like 6.5k to me excluding the monitors. BTW it can work with any monitors right?

What kind of specs r needed to edit HDV or HD? Will the basic Mac Pro with a 4GB ram be sufficient? I do not really understand what is the RAID for.. can someone enlighten me? Thks!

Some of the processors and some of the newer plugins can offload rendering to GPU.

Yes, can work with any monitors.

Mac Pro will happily edit HDV which can be considered compressed HD. Since Final Cut Pro is scalable, you can work all the way up to 4K if you want. Uncompressed HD video will requite a fast RAID as the files and throughput will be bigger.

Totally agree with Bro DXNMedia. The Avid tech support really Sux like hell. I called them regarding about tech issue. They push here and there. Tell u to call phillipnies local call charge. After i called to phillipines, the operator message saying that they only support their own local..Call avid again they cant really do much, tell u to call who and who so and so dont know from which retail shop, in the end I still cant get my problem solve. U can imagine we spent so much money on their products and yet cant get a decent help from them. I called to usa, they said i have to call our local avid for help. Then our local Avid saying i have to call phillipines for tech support. Wah lah..In the end i found out that im learning tai chi quan from them. Not bad arh nowdays avid also giving free lesson on martial art issue.:thumbsd:

Just to check, is the local office for Avid still the one at Performance Centre?

I know little about NLE systems in detail, but all that I know was that they seemed to have excellent customer service when I attended a product demo session for their DS Nitris system...

Guess I was wrong. :bsmilie:

Not too sure if they're still at Performance Ctr...I don't even bother to catch up with Avid products now even though I still occasionally use Media Composer Adrenaline systems for some post work.

Avid resellers in Singapore works this way...if you're a corporate customer with big budget to spend on edit systems, they'll be super duper good with their sales. They'll even come to your office and set up an edit system for you to test....they'll even bring their so-called 'product-specialist' to demo all the 'oooh & wows' features.

but aftersales..... :nono::nono::nono:

Why do most people say FCP is better than Premiere? I say it depends on the capability of the editor. I have done all my corporate videos since 2001 on Adobe Premiere, and I train production houses on Premiere as well. Premiere is not lacking in features compared to FCP, and when you pair it with a Matrox hardware video card, there is no comparison. Premiere is definitely faster to edit, and more user friendly.

The article comparing states "FCP gives you power to adjust audio in the Viewer/Source window. We were able to look at the audio in Premiere, but FCP lets us adjust the levels and pan with incredible detail by zooming in on the audio waveforms to eliminate a microphone hit or an electrical snap. "

The author obviously doesn't know what he's talking about! In Premiere you can zoom in and examine the audio waveforms closely, this was available in Premiere 6.0 and even 5.0!

Well, one major thing is the "credibility" issue if you care about such things. Premiere is almost never mentioned in the same league as FCP or Avid. It does not sound as impressive if you say you edit in Premiere.

As for Premiere being "faster to edit, and more user friendly", that is subject to personal opinion :)

I would say that of the three companies, Apple is the one making leaps and bounds in the video industry. Avid is on the decline (just look at their share price over the last 2 years) and Adobe is still an outsider in the general video industry.

That said...I agree with your comment about "it depends on the capability of the editor"

I prefer FCP over Premiere when it comes to Mac editing software. FCP's stable, unlike Premiere that mysteriously disappears while editing.

 agree with you but to certain extend.. or probably should i say the older version of premiere..
but personally i think with cs3 or even cs2, premiere has stretch himself on par or atleast very close to his rival FCP.. not mentioning Avids as it is loosing its market share.. (the market tells.. ex $$ too).

I beleive it is the industry adoptation towards FCP is greater as it is much more "power" as compared to the older version of premiere. and i oso believe with cs3, premiere will be able to win some market share..

personaly i see the industry is moving this way..
FCP still crunch on to broadcast video editor
Premiere cs will grab some corporate video / multimedia video editor (due to its ability to switch between its cs family from premiere - after effect - photoshop and other adobe cs component).

After all both have its strengths and weaknesses.. they are just a tool.. equally good tools. it all depends on the operator.. end of day the client cares is your work.. not your tools.

cheers.. ;)

u mean u use premiere on mac? well i think probably FCP has been long engh with Mac.
premiere was on mac when i 1st use many years back, but abandon them for several years, oni again they starts to cater for mac user in recently year.. so i believe it may take sometimes to "fit" in ba.. :dunno: but adobe cs on window wks fine lay.

:)

I'm well verse with both platform (Mac and Window) Final Cut Pro and Premiere Pro. both are equally good. but Mac have the music editing and composing software that I can made my own music to made the video more interesting.

I thinking of switching to Mac too... but it seem rather expensive and I only do video montage for wedding and corporate events. so I settle for windows.

Premiere pro works well with DV stardard. The seamless integration with after effect is gd and useful. But it has problems while working with HD footage. The system becomes unstable and it has audio sync problem. So far the adobe hasn't address this problem, the only solution at the moment is to use 3rd HDV plugin to capture and edit the video.

I don't use FCP because I just don't like MAC :dunno:
