simple way is just use imovie to import first.

if all else fails, transcoding it first with mpeg streamclip?

mpeg-streamclip cannot do that, But Toast will.

Google: AVCHD final cut pro

Sometimes, i wonder is it that the most obviously thing in front of you is actually harder to do?

Being newbie is ok but being lazy is not.

Final Cut Pro X imports AVCHD directly.

File... import... files...

If it doesn't work, maybe your files are not AVCHD but some unsupported formats.

I have edited Sony FS100 and Panasonic HMC152 footage, both AVCHD in FCP X, so I know it definitely works.

On the other hand, if you don't even know how to import files in FCP X, you should perhaps look at using iMovie instead -- an editing tool built for beginners and consumers. FCP X is not called Final Cut PRO for no reason.

Are you shooting in SD card ?

If yes, yes slot in your SD card into the sd card reader. Just click the IMPORT icon, wait for a while & then all the clips will appear for you to select & import.

But remember not to alter the structure of the folder in your SD card or else it cannot be detected.

If your structure is different, then purchase clipwrap & import in thos .mts files & use clipwrap to convert it ProRes 442 ...

Good luck ...
