filter setup

Hi All,

I have a question on filter buying and setup, hopefully someone can give me some idea.

My current setup is cokin P holder on a Tamron 17-50mm (67mm in diameters). I'm thinking to buy ND110 77mm ( this is because i might buy 10-24mm in future ) but i'm still confuse if below are the things that i need to do before i can use it with my existing lens and also the existing cokin p holder.

1) buy a step up rings for the filter in order to fit in my tamron 17-50mm
2) buy another 77mm ring adapter for the ND110 in order for it to hold the cokin p series holder.

Please advise, thanks.

Yup... those are the things you need to get to use the set up.

1) is correct. You attach the 67-77mm step up ring to your 17-50, then attach the ND110. Job done.

2) Why would you want to mount the ND110 and then the cokin p holder? Wanna stack ND and GND? Hmmmmm... ok I suppose.
But yeah a 77mm adapter ring would be useful to attach to your (future) 10-24. Is your filter holder of the wide-angle variety? Otherwise you'll probably get pretty serious vignetting at 10mm... actually I think you'll get vignetting anyway @ 10mm :) Might need other filter holder

Hi just some queries, Cokin P holder can b use for Canon 10-22mm lens? i was told tat 77mm is too wide for Cokin P holder.

Yea for now the most important is to make sure i can use the ND110 together with my GND until i get the 10-24 then i will worry about the holder :)

I will leave this question to the experts :)

i stack the nd110 with a tianya filter gnd a lot of the time, and i only get vignetting at the extreme corners. this is with the use of the wide angle filter holder from cokin, of course. p series.

correcting for sigma 10-20 distortion with photoshop cs5, this is removed, hey presto.

i'm using the 67mm and stacking with tianya. my main concern for now would be:

do i need the 10-24? sure u will get the wideness, but it makes composition harder with werid objects sticking in.
how long would it take to get that 10-24?

for me, i'm forseeing at least another good 5-6 years before i get a ultra wide angle lens. hence my decision to stick with the 67mm ring for ease of usage and also the learning experience justifies the cost, before the upgrade.

i hope my decision and past experience with the same lens and problems would shed some light on urs too:)

Just to add on,

be sure to get the wide angle filter holder for Cokin P. The one with single slot only.

For some reason it works well with the sigma 10-20. But it does not work as well for the Tokina 11-16. Something to do with the construction of the lens. (maybe the front element of the tokina is slight more recessed?)
