Filming on Public Transport

Play by ear lah. Take your own risks.

Is it so hard to understand? And why do I see my name being pulled in again in those large text walls?

May or may not happen. Security guards often tell me that I'll go to jail if I shoot their buildings too :) All depends.

Yah, if you want to test whether it is allowed or not, just go ahead and shoot. And then we can test whether they allow us to shoot interview with you at Changi prison.... :D

Was joking lah.

Actually, my experience with this kind of thing happened last year. I was shooting video of some watersports activities on the river, outside the esplanade. A security guard from the esplanade appeared after 10 minutes and told me I needed permission from esplanade management to shoot there. I wasn't even pointing at the esplanade, and he didn't bother about all the people taking pictures with small cameras and handphones.

If this is about security, it makes me wonder how their minds work. Maybe they think a terrorist who wants to recce a place is going to use an XL2 on a large tripod, rather than an unobtrusive device? :dunno:

tat's always the case..

Wat i think is if doing a project and need proper cam and sequencial takes.. then apply permision lor.. if u just need very general shots then use a good small 3CCD cam. hmm.. a model maybe helpful? :dunno:

Like I've said, an XL system and my crew got on a bus without any problem. If you want to shoot then, position yourself strategically and do it fast and slick.

And it's your own risk.

It is called "Mindless Terrorphobia"...
This is one reason I seldom or NEVER do any shooting at or around the stupid Esplanade...
Big fat harry deal...!

Why is it I always hear stories about people being chased from the Esplanade, but I've taken lots of photos in that vicinity and have gotten nothing? Some even give me a friendly smile.

i guess photo is less sensity then video.. :dunno:

Never tell any security personel/management that you are applying for permission to shoot their building/location. Of cos the reply will be NO!

Just tell them you would like to do a film in their building/location, that should give you a better chance. Hahaha...

ok...just joking. :p

Typical Singaporean kia-si-ism, if you're not sure, the answer is "NO!". LOL

Maybe you can offer to let them "meet the stars" then the answer suddenly becomes "YES!"

Which is why when you need to gain access for more than just a snapshot, don't ask the guard. Just go straight to the management firm/REIT/whatever-authority to present your case.

Good one, now we know it isn't as mysterious as he makes it out to be. After failing to use the proper written laws, he attempted to shroud it in mystery as "offical secrets". Now we know that that isn't true as well.

Hmmm....reality cheak......what is name calling and personal attack here........

Well for Esplanade; me, my partners and sister companies had filmed and taken fotos there (engaged by the organizers) yah the usual "ding-dong" of exchange pass and the norm security check etc. No issue as long as the organizer submits your particulars prior to the event. According to the staff of esplanade, they say that there is a policy to protect the artistes to prevent artistes' fotos & video being misused and posted in internet blah blah blah. Only appointted videographers and photographers can shoot in th various halls/ theatres.

There is different security threat levels for certain installations and buildings for govt and public tpt etc, which is determined by the homeland security office. For private buildings it up to the bldg mgmt. Like what Jensen said - unless you try and sort approval from the bldg mgmt you will not know.

I had filmed MOE Bldg, MHA "twin tower", Police Special Ops Tactical Training Camp, HDB Bldg, PSA Bldg and inside the container terminals, MPA Bldg and their ships and even Police Coast Guards and follow their ships out to sea. Its all about what the filming is for and it will go thru at least 1 month of screening for approval. Like what Lazerlordz is trying to say below:

i once used a bolex and shot in the airport. and no one stopped me or gave me any looks. security personnel mustve been slacking or jacking off somewhere by the fountain.
or maybe they didnt susoect it was a camera.......

well they say "do what you want but dun get caught" hahaha......

Anyway there are lots of cctv and monitoring systems in airport sometimes ISD will just follow a "suspect" without even approaching until they find that the suspect is innocent etc
