Film

I would like to know:

1. Where you can buy the different brands of color and B&W film? Eg. I want to buy Fuji Velvia 50 and most places don't carry them. Also I want to buy either Neopan or Ilford XP4. While some places carry them others don't. So where is a one stop shop for film?
2. Development. Most places develop the film and give you back a digital copy in Jpeg either at 1200 or 2400 dpi. Asking them for a TIF file most of the time gets a negative answer. Does anyone know of a place that does TIF?

Thanks

Try Ruby Photo at Peninsula? They do scanning too. Alternatively, you can try asking Kgston- one of the bros offering scanning services at the Commercial Services Offered thread under Marketplace.
Hope this helps.

1-2 weeks ago I was at fotohub commonwealth branch. I saw quite a bit of provia and velvia there. You can check it out.

Your best bet is Peninsula area. However, not one shop carries everything. Cathay carries lots of Kodak and some Fuji films and slides. Konota carries Fuji film and slides (since they are a Fujilab). For Ilford and Kodak you can go to Ruby.

For scanning to TIF my advice to you is to get a film scanner. There are entry level ones and most expensive stuff. May cost more initially but if you're serious about film, investing ina scanner is going to save you lots down the road.

I saw Velvia 50 on sale at Konota (Peninsula) and Triple D (Bencoolen). I heard OP at Sim Lim has it but is out of stock for now.

some fuji labs carry velvia and provia.. even the one at Jurong Point also have, but expensive.. there is no one stop shop i'm afraid.. your best bet for a one-stop-film-shopping is by ordering online, like from freestylephoto..

Just wondering... why no one tries Agfa?

The vista & precisa are made by fuji and cost a fraction of the price...

Just wondering why people complain of high film price when there is other alternative?

oh my... chiif, i didnt notice that the new agfa is manufactured by fuji. Has the color scheme of the film changed since the manfacturer is different? I loved the colors produced by the Made in EU version.

yeah love vista 400. my new favourite film.

Vista 400 is definitely one of my favourite as well

Vista is essentially superia rebadged, and Precisa probably Sensia.

actually, if one is willing to experiment, there are bargains, for example:

(shown without shipping)

c-41 B&W (rumored to be XP2) (24 exp): 1.59 USD http://www.ultrafineonline.com/ch400bwcfi35.html
Agfa 100 (24 exp): $1.49 USD http://www.ultrafineonline.com/agapx100bwfi.html
Agfa 400 (24 exp): $1.59 USD http://www.ultrafineonline.com/agapx400bwfi.html
HP5+ (2 rolls per pack): $4.59 (or 2.30 oer roll) http://www.freestylephoto.biz/1169959-Ilford-HP5+-400-iso-35mm-x-36-exp.-2-pack?cat_id=402
Kodak Plus-x Private Label (24 exp): $1.89USD http://www.freestylephoto.biz/192241-Arista-Premium-BandW-100-ISO-35mm-x-24-exp.?cat_id=402
Kodak Tri-x Private Label (36 Exp): $2.59USD http://www.freestylephoto.biz/192364-Arista-Premium-BandW-400-ISO-35mm-x-36-exp.?cat_id=402

the above is the strongest reason for mass sale...

as for 120 format, i found ruby's pricing more competitive than online.

I am currently standardising on Plus-x for 135 and Tmax 400 for 120 format, hence not looking to experiment, although HP5+ looks mighty tempting.

I actually prefer Ilford Delta over TMax actually, but it's personal preference.

actually...i forgot to mention this:

(before shipping)

20 x Fuji Acros 100 (24 exp) = $29.99 USD http://www.freestylephoto.biz/19424...-exposures-20-Roll-Pack-Short-date?cat_id=402
20 x Fuji Neopan 400 (24 exp) = $29.99 USD http://www.freestylephoto.biz/19424...-exposures-20-Roll-Pack-Short-date?cat_id=402
10 x Fuji Acros 100 + 10 x Fuji Neopan 400 (24 Exp) = $29.99 USD http://www.freestylephoto.biz/19424...5mm-x-24-exposures-10+10-Roll-Pack?cat_id=402

I love Acros 100. Fuji Neopan 400, well, a bit too grainy vs Tri-x. (imo, i know many people like neopan 400)

Hi,

I looked at all the online sites and even with the US$ this low I don't see the big gains. I bought a box of Ilford FP4 ISO 125 from Ruby and it cost me S$6. It cost US$6.89 on freestyle.biz and that doesn't include the shipping. Is there an online site that sells in bulk. On Amazon it cost US$7.89 and on B&H it is US$4.25. So I am not sure it make sense to order from overseas.

Maybe not for Ilford film, but based on my calculation for Tri-X, if I buy 50 rolls of Arista Premium 400, it averages out to SGD 5.89 per 36-exposure roll. Compared to SGD 9 per roll locally, that makes a lot of sense. If you buy 100-feet bulk rolls, it becomes even cheaper.

I am going to stick to buying film locally unless i want Fuji Velvia 50 which is very difficult to buy in Singapore. Unless if i am travelling i may buy from overseas. Heard that you can buy film in Bangkok or HK that is about 25% cheaper than in Singapore. Since i do go to HK at least twice a year i will bring back a whole bag!

here is a calculation. i bought 5 packs of 20-ish Neopan 400
(aka Legacy Pro 400) 36-roll at 34.99 a roll (the 24 exposure is around $30)
for a total of 100 rolls, or $174.95 + 13.99usd shipping to vpost account.
Assuming SGD 50 to deliver from vpost to singapore,
the total will be 50 + 1.25 exchange rate x (175 + 14) = 286.25 for a 100 rolls.
this works out to be 2.90 estimated a roll.

I will add that this makes sense only if you shoot alot and shoot consistently.
