1. Where can I still get a cheap p&s to get me started? (poor poor student)
2. What are the processing fees for film if i want to just burn them onto a disc?
3. types of film avail

Hello! Welcome back to film! Whenever i see or hear someone mention about goin to Film Photography, it just excites me more. :)

To answer your question;
1) Well, where can you get better deals? If the evilbay is out of your league, why not check the Buy & Sell section here? I saw someone selling an Olympus MJu II for $100. Specs like 35mm lens F2.8. Or if you prefer non automatic and plastic lens toy-kinda like you can try Holga but word of advise, not all content with toy cameras. So basically theres alot of diff point and shoots. If you have more budget, check out Ricoh GR1 series, Contax T2, Yashica T4 series... :) google them for specs etc.

2) Different shops have different rates,
Ive been going to Triple D @ Burlington Sq to get my film develop & scan like $8 i think? I cant remember as its been awhile. Theres few places like Konota @ Peninsula Plaza too.

3) With types u mention, theres alot. Namely 35mm or 120format (medium format).
Color Negatives,
Slides,
Black & White,
Infrared.

Maybe other gurus here could suggest too?
:D

1. Get a Minolta! Value for money.
2. 8-15 bucks depending where you go and film you use.
3. Loads, most common in shops Fuji Superia 200.

Saw this deal on BnS on the Zenit TTL

Is this worth it? What M42 lens choices are there?

I'm starting on film too :D but I'm going MF via TLR :P you may wish to develop your own B&w films. If you do, you can check out my thread in the MF & LF forum; TLR users you have a New member

Some seniors have posted some links on how to develop and advice on film photography too :P

Triple D develops and scans 4-base for 8sgd, 16-base for 13sgd, can collect the next working day
Never go back to Ruby again. They charge me 13sgd for 4-base, which take 1 week to collect
For me the best deal is Grace at Clementi. 7sgd for 4-base scanning, and 8.5 for 16-base scanning. the sweet point is that you can collect after just 2 hours.

I see. Do we have to develop the film to scan it onto a disc?

1. B&S have plenty. Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Minolta, Fuji, Konica, Ricoh, Chinon are some of the brands you can look at. Pentax, Ricoh and Chinon have both M42 nd K-mount, whichthe current DSLRs from Pentax can use, although the M42 needs an adapter.

I am a Pentax user and I started film using the Cosina CT1a and moved on to a Chinon CP-7m and to the Pentax Z20 and the MZ-S which I currently still use.

2. Depends on the company you go to.

3. Fujifilm, Kodak, are 2 of the brans still available but you can get B&W from ILFORD, or those Lomo type from Ruby Poto at Penisula Shopping Cenre.

There are lots of M42 on eBay.

Walk around peninsular, there are many used film cameras for sale. I am also looking to get a used slr.

Anyone knows where I can get expired film?

Welcome.

May consider getting a Russian rf like zorki, fed, Kiev or yashicas or canonets.

I bought mine each for under 200.

Hi, can you guys recommend some shop developing B/W + scanning ? hopefully affordable one. Thanks in advance

If you have a Nikon DSLR, you can look into their film SLRs. Nikon FE is quite cheap for body, Nikon FM is better built but slightly more expensive. I think I sold my FE body a few months ago for $180. The plus side is that the lenses are cheap ~$100 for a 50mm Series E and they work on your DSLR as well. If you have Nikon lenses with external aperture then you can also use it on the film SLR.

Grace photo at Clementi offers developing for $6. If you shoot a lot of B/W, try doing it at home as it's much much cheaper. I buy bulk film $76 per roll which equates to about 20 rolls of 36 exposure Tri-X, about $3.80 per roll. Chemicals to develop the film only cost me $40 and last for a long long time, probably enough to develop $100 rolls so thats 40c development cost per roll. Something to consider if you shoot a lot of BW.
