Hi all,

Wanna share my shopping experience. Am a newbie; decided to get a dry box; understand that Cathay is very reputable; however its closed on Sundays.

Wanted to get a dry box. Went to PHOTOCAM ELECTRONICS #01-04 @ PENINSULA PLAZA; the salesman told me (what i heard) was S$18 for this i_Case Designer Series Box... however when making payment; it became S$48; I paid w/o thinking... recalling that i'm quite foolish; shouldn't have bought in the 1st place...

went to check online @ yahoo auctions... is around S$20... dun mind e shop earning a few bucks more... but its like close to S$30 difference... oh manz.. can't take it...

will drop by the shop one of these days to confront the boss... will update this thread.... any1 with similar experiences? or any advice? thanks in advance.... :)

bro... i feel for u... next time just do a quick check of the price first... and NEVER let the sale person convince u to buy something you're not researched on before... No matter how much discount he can offer you for that "moment"

And do walk around the "fixed" priced shops like harvey, best electronic blah blah blah or shops with better reputation (look around in CS and u can more or less figure out which ones are more frequently recommended by CS pple).

And u can't really take this to CASE... in case u were thinking of it... there's not printed price that u can complain against...

Take care man...

let me ask you

why didn't you say no? why didn't you clarify?

so you were weak (and that's a mild way to put it), and you didn't do your homework in the first place so you got cheated. best part is you suspected so and you didn't do a thing about it. and who's to blame? the salesman? it takes two hands to clap, you handed over the cash. end of story. this is another pointless thread.

I beg your pardon, isn't items sold @Yahoo auction 2nd hands? :dunno:

nah, but in any case, $48 for a icase dry box is way overboard, it's almost double what you pay at carrefour ($23?$24?$25?)

yahoo auctions not necessarily 2nd hand, there are people who sell brand new stuff, but i would not usually go so far as to trust their claims unless they are a highly recommended auctioner (good ratings). even then, is there really a difference between a first hand dry box and a second hand dry box, so long as it is still airtight and aesthetics still the same? :dunno:

i agree with night86mare bro.. why did you hand over the 48 bucks in the first place when (i assume) you decided to buy because it was 18 dollars?

anyway its alerady done deal already lar... just hope that the box works... worst is it doesn't... :o

Next time just be more careful lor... no need to feel shy one... price not right just walk out... its ur money. Its your right.

I can't believe that there are people who think that charging $48 for a $18 item is ok... just because the buyer is not aware. Third world selling ethics. And what does the $30 cost the shop? Bad publicity and one very dissatisfied customer. If I own a shop.. I'll much rather pay $30 for good publicity and a very satisfied customer. Haiz.
I understand that every shop needs to do business. But I'll much prefer it if the culture in Singapore is one whereby I can walk into any shop and buy things without worrying being ripped off.

Newja: Sorry to hear about your case. And thank you for letting all the people in Clubsnap know about this dishonest shop. The shop won't be getting any business from me.

IC, IC...

I think I want to put in my assumption of what happened.

TS and salesguy spoke in Mandarin.

Then when salesguy said SiShiBa, TS heard as ShiBa.

Also, TS not those garang streetwise type, the Salesguy is those more "pro-active" type.

So end up like this.

Mods, please delete my double post. Sorry and thanks!

If you cannot take back your $, treat it a lesson learnt. Next time dun be shy for money issue. Just ask again "How much" to confirm. Usually for me, I know the items selling price, but I will still ask the Salesman or Cashier for price confirmation.

That's a real bad case. I think TS should hold back to his cash when he heard or know $48 instead of $18.

This is what I had done at a spectacles shop where the price was far too expensive. Just talk awhile with the sales man and go out of the shop even they had measure my sight degree and I had select a frame.

yea, i dun relli trust the other shops except CP in penisula, there's another one on level 1 opposite funan and juz beside an escalator leading to BK, cant remember the name though but its a green signboard, servive attitude totally hopeless.

yup was cheated once from one of the secondhand shop over there ..
i was supose to get at the bargain price ... but that guy punch the sale price from my card..at that time i was on phone with a frenz .. during that time i did not think straight .. so i had it ..could not sleep for some time ...

i hve a dry box of that kind... can sell if someone wants it ... not used b4 get it when i bought a dry cabinet ... $20 dollar to go with ...

If it makes you feel a little better, I had a even much worse experience with a photo shop jus 2 days ago. You could read about it in my other thread. I'm not sure if I will be able to bring the complaint to CASE but I will try - for the fact they raised their voice and challenged me. Never felt so humiliated. Yes, we were foolish for trusting them but that is not a crime, was it? That doesn't mean, they have the rights to mislead us.;(

hmm, were you served by a young fella? I learnt that that guy cannot ever be trusted. The middle age guy still quite ok.

newja,

since you have already joined the forum.. do a search on the reputable dealers in SIN.. take it as a lesson learnt and like my father likes to tell me... its your money.. learn to say no if you do not feel comfortable parting with it.. you may feel awkward for taking up the salesman time and yet not buying anything, however, you still can say no.

personally, i have so far been going to one shop in AMK only.. they prices they give are comfortable compared to the shops in town... so far, for the items i want, the prices i get from shops in town are either more expensive by $50 ~$100 or slightly cheaper , but not worth the time and parking to buy it from town..

however, take note when asking for quotes by email, check if the price they have offered you includes GST.. I bought a macro lens for $797 three days after i emailed another shop, when i returned home, the 2nd shop offered me the same lense at $745 and i thought i overpaid $50 ..

however, 2 lines down, it states clearly, the price will be subjected to 7% GST, which brings it back to the same price i purchased

Ts, did you clarify the $$ on the spot after you paid or only realised when you get home? If it's the latter, can it be keying in error by the cashier as the number 1 & 4 is on the same row and can be easily mis-keyed? TS should go down to the shop to clarify with them 1st.

Please keep us updated ya ... :)

It is important to clarify, and please do so asap. Maybe it was a human error when keying the value $48 instead of $18. Maybe it was communication error, he said wrongly or you heard wrongly. Or maybe they are out to mislead you simply.

Double check with them first and we can at least proceed forward with our options.
