Hi fellow minoltians,

Would you purchase the 70-200 f2.8 SSM lens. If yes do let me know. This is because people in minolta and retailors are unsure of the sales of this lens. From my understanding when speaking to them, I may need to rope in as much as 10 dudes for them to bring into Singapore. You can PM me or reply to the thread.

Me not forcing or giving pressure to you gentlemen/ladies, I just need some feedback. Thanks.

Regards.

P.S.: to moderators, this is not a M.O. Thanks.

Hi Forbytes,

The question is "How much??". I suspect it will not be anywhere lower than 3K. :what:

This is my last quote from CP on 25th Feb.

> Item2=Minolta 80-200 F/2.8 G @ S$2,338.00

> Item3=Minolta 70-200 F2.8 G SSM (D) - Not available

Cheers!

Unfortunately, yes.

CP doesn't even stock for 85 G, 80-200 G etc.

Yes, I already reflected to the Minolta side that there is an increase in people searching for the 80-200 lens. Just that retailors are playing quite about it. So to make sure the retailors have confidence, there must be quite a number of orders for them to bring in any minolta stuff.

The price is expected to be around $3100. No one wants to release any pricing to me. I figured this amount based on Hong Kong price that I read from other forum group (not DPReview). Our retailors are pushing for other lens sales more active than Minolta ones.

I have waited for 1 year and the conclusion is that Singapore have less than 10 interested buyer to justify appreance. I seriously hope this is not the case with DSLR.

I think the demand for the new SSM lens are low worldwide without the DSLR, KM are not even advertising for them. Just one thought, with the 1.5/1.6 crop factor, this lens will become 112 - 320 equivalent. I find this range is not less usable for its original purpose (which is handheld portrait lens IMO). I wonder if Sigma will release a 70-200 HSM version for Minolta later.

For DSLR, you can count me as one.. ;)

I look at it this way. If Minilta can't even generate enough interest for its own lenses, then I don't why Sigma would be interested in providing an alternative.

Because many minolta user buy into 3rd party lens like Sigma due to the much cheaper price. Personally, I have 4 minolta and 2 sigma.

I have 4 minolta lens, 1 of them is a kit lens. I just find the colour from Sigma lens not what I was looking for. Too used to the vividness and punch of colours from Minolta lens.

Hi,

I'm sure no one in Singapore has stock. I'm also quite sure that if you tell them that you want to buy one, they would get it for you. All items that Minolta carries is listed in the Minolta retailer's price list.

Cheers!

U can count me out for the SSM Lens but count me in for the DSLR tho'.... :) Thanks!

at least we now have 3/10 for DSLR, 1/10 for SSM. keep it coming.

Forbytes, I think you should not have a problem getting 10 Minolta DSLR buyers..... but not all of them might be early adopters. Some might prefer to wait and see before buying like me....... but I will buy it when I'm ready....

Hi TME, thanks for your comfort.

I won't be getting SSM lens, nor DSLR (at least not in the near future).

Not getting SSM cos I don't have the need for it.

Not getting DSLR cos I don't shoot often enough to justify its savings against using film vs depreciation of camera price.
