Does epson have dye-sub? Never heard any announcement yet. The concern is printing kit and paper support....you may buy a superb dye-sub but horrible prices for the dye.

The Canon dye-sub user base is very mature, it has been using the same printing kits for many generations of its dye-sub printers, also means the price is relatively low.

I agree the the Canon bundled applications don't print as desired (due to no calibration done), but the direct print is excellent, I tried using CP710 with memory card (when in this mode or direct from camera it will activete the auto image correction) and it looks similar to original shot, and without any adjustments.

how much does these dye printer cost?

if i m not mistaken, last weekend papers advertise the 510 for only 169...

For those of you interested to find out about how long the various 4x6 prints can last. last updated on 02 March 2006.

Thanks for sharing.

Wondering how accurate in the report?

Btw,my dye-sub printer is not in the list. I was told, minimum is 100 years.

No joke! :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

If you don't need to have high thruput, can wait for slightly longer processing time, and no preview on set function...

Go for the lowest model. Cos all the prints quality is the same.

Canon photo printers only have the postcard size.

Other size all the shop ask me to go back to canon to ask.
But so far, too lazy to go down.

You have to buy the appropriate tray holders should you want to print other sizes also.

Canon have Credit-card size (Sticker - 18pc, Normal - 36pc, 8-in-1 sticker - 18pc), 3R and extended 4R

All these sizes need to purchase an optional tray, recommended is the credit card size tray (approx $15?), the other sizes are not much useful, althought new canon cameras comes with wide screen format to ultilize the extended 4R.

For the 30c per print, remember it only apply to the 108pc box for the 4R sizes. So to calculate, the 3R is the most expensive paper type (think is ard $15 per box)

Any idea where I can get the extended 4R tray and paper. I've got quite a bit of panoramic cropped pics to print. Any leads appreciated...

BTW, I use the Selphy 510. Colour prints generally acceptable though I find at default setting gives off a slightly green cast compared to a lab print of the same image file - could be my monitor or something. B&W prints not good, to overcome this, I convert my B&W prints to sepia which turns out more pleasing (to me that is).

I also trying to find the tray. Anyway nice enuff to go down to Canon HQ to ask?

Go to the advanced tab in the properties of your printer. Should have a colour setting curve, fine tune from there.

Paper can find easily but not the tray. Actually since it's just a physical tray, I reckon can use the original tray with the paper.... I got a pack lying around prob tomorrow try it out

Have been 10 days. How's the feedback?

Oh I'm overseas now so didn't get to verify how to overcome this.

Anyway just before I left, I tried out and it doesn't work. The printer will prompt the wrong tray is inserted, just when it's going to print.....intelligent? Read on.

I thought it''s weird since it's only a physical tray....I took a closer look and finally saw what held it back - on the bottom left of the printer inlet there's a 3-pin touchswitch. When the normal tray is inserted all 3 pins will be depressed. There are 4 types of paper so I reckon the different trays will depressed the switches in different combinations. I have yet to discover what's the combination for different trays.....

Googled but no avail, I will try out when I'm back next week.

I just remembered...I think the CP600 comes with both trays. Anyone kind enough to tell us what pins are depressed when the wide tray is used?
