I would like to vote for Nikon AF-S Micro 105 f/2.8 VR. However, the line below indicates that I cannot vote... why?? How to vote.

I believe you need a minimum amount of posts before you can vote.

What bout Sigma 70mm f/2.8 EX DG Auto Focus Macro Lens? The lens was judged Best Expert Lens by the TIPA organization, and received the 2007 TIPA award!

Got meself tamron 90mm 2.8
- use it for macro and it is sharp and light
- use for portrait (focus limiter on)

It's value for money

I also have to sigma 70-300mm APO DG MACRO to try out macro (with extension tubes and tripod, it gives decent result). But i'm selling this now coz 90mm really is good and have other lenses to cover my sigma range. hehehe...

105mm VR nice but too heavy la. one hand camera one hand second flash shack out very fast ...:o

More like my fingers were aching from the weight.
How to train my right hand fingers :dunno:

I still love the 105 AFD over my 105 VR :P

Should add the AFS 60mm f/2.8G micro. Beautiful bokeh!

hmm... Sigma 150mm f2.8 not in the poll...

but it's a good macro lens!

guys i seriously need to know about this. i am tempted to buy tamron 90mm but one thing i wanna know about this is "IS IT POSSIBLE TO USE THIS LENS TO REACH 1:1 MAGNIFICATION WITHOUT TRIPOD" ?? i dont have tripod and even if i do , i prefer not to bring tripod everytime i go out

i think i have a good hand stability since i have shot some snapshots with d40 in the shutter speed slower than 1/20.

so what do you think?

I think you mean to ask if it's possible to take handheld 1:1 shots. The fast answer is yes, of course you can, but it depends on the situation. It's not a simple question to answer because there are many factors you need to consider.

Basically, the DOF is very shallow at 1:1. This means you will need to use small apertures to get more of your subject in focus. And you probably know that small aperture = slower shutter speed. If you are willing to use higher ISOs, then you can counter this problem somewhat at the expense of image quality. You must also note that any hand-shake is magnified at 1:1 so it will not be easy to take shots at slow shutter speed.

At the end of the day, if you are serious about macro photography, do consider getting a good tripod.
