Faster way to capture tape in FCP?

Anyone know of any faster way to capture footage into FCP faster to do wedding express highlights. Normally i just capture which runs on real time and so it takes very long.
Everytime have to rush. Please help.

shoot lesser, capture only what you need.....or use tapeless cameras, or buy DTE harddisk recorders.

i agree. I read an article once about shooting for editing. Shoot like you have the editor in mind. Having a shotlist is good also. By experience, you would know what to take for the final result.

To do batch capture means you have to do logging!!! which is bloody tedious and you will need one more ka kia with you. It is almost impossible to do it for a too fast too furious situation like a wedding where everything happens almost without warning spontaneously. Seriously, HD should solve your problem, what do you mean by it fails you?

Shooting only what you need may help but since you never know what will happen, this approach might cost you to miss certain split second moments. Maybe get second unit. One will shoot according to shot list, the other will do general coverage for insurance.

If your camera is DV or HDV, you could add a Sony Compact Flash recorder which allows you to record on both tape and CF cards simultaneously. Then you can do a file transfer instead of a tape capture, and still have the tape as an archive in case you need it.

If you still like to capture, then just hit the capture now button in FCP and use DV start/stop detect to break the clip up automatically. I find ingesting in chunks like this much faster than batch capturing. You can still log the tape and name the clip first before hitting "capture now"
