I saw a canon 0.95 lens at a photofair in perth recently... so tempting.. unfortunately.. its canon not pentax

the pentax 50/1.2s don't come cheap... there's one on ebay right now:

actually I was doing some research on the photography forums on this lens. Impression I got was that fast tho this lens is, its not that good in optical quality, esp when there are some many variants of the 50mm available! think the A 50/1.7 has been quite well lauded... and so is the F 50/1.4, except that (as many pointed out) that the AF is something you don't need.

That one is definitely not worth it. Heck it is even older than the M series. While the allure for fast glass is very tempting, in reality the performance for the f/1.2 lenses aren't very uniform and more likely to exhibit aberrations such as coma.

I'm sure the A 50/1.4 is capable of the same, but i can say the A 50 1.7 takes great photos, creates beautiful star effects with tiny apertures at night, eh.. i could go on.

really? hmmm I know fengwei has SMC 50mm f1.2 :D not sure whether has he sold it off

That one sold off already. Too many lenses to choose from, sometimes I do feel abit guilty not using them enough to justify the cost :embrass:

feng wei has lots of rare and precious goodies lah..
from good cameras, to excellent lenses to cute daughter cum model....;)

At least the last part is very true :D

It's not M lens but a K series one ;) Optically it's similar to the A50/1.2 but has only 8 aperture blades (the A50/1.2 has 9). They worth the cost if you really need the speed (under low light I guess) or super thin DoF.

I've had two A50/1.2, both perform great optically, sharper than FA50/1.4 even wide open. The smooth bokeh is something to desire, as well as the creamy bokeh and super thin DoF. But practically it's not really too much different from the slower 1.4 or 1.7 one.

Buy those fast lens only when you really need them, don't just buy in to the speed :)

"50mm" is a prime lens right? Seems like this number is very popular, what kind of shots is it suitable for? :)

How much is it? And whats the difference between DA and FA? Digital and Film?

I think it is not the number is popular but mainly because the 50 f/1.4 is a value for money lens and very useful for low light photography.;)
