Hi Clubsnappers,

I'm posting this thread to seek help.
Recently i bought this crumpler bag from "Oldies", which he stated that it's sinking barge.
I'm new to crumpler and am looking for a stylish camera backpack which i though that S$45 for a crumpler is a good price.
I went ahead to clementi and deal with this guy. Look at the bag , exterior looks ok but interior looks suspicious.
Because i've not use a crumpler backpack before so i dunno whats the actual material and quality.

He was rushing me to go and meet him as there's another buyer wanting it if i don't, so i asked him to reserve for me and i went to clementi for the deal.
Never did i expect that the bag is not sinking barge, it's Crumpler pretty boy backpack at first glance. And i thought " nvm pretty boy for $45 is also a good deal as well " and went on with the deal.
When i get home , i did a research. there's no brown colour "pretty boy" and there's a obvious stitching fault when i check it more properly.
I know I'm partly responsible without checking the bag properly,
but he did not state that the crumpler bag is a fake so i assume it's the authentic one.

So my concern is that is the bag fake? if it's fake, possible for a police report?

Because i've tried smsing and calling him telling him that i want a refund if the bag is fake.
He said that the bag is his brother's who is currently overseas.
So i waited for about a week now , smsing him for a couple of days ( no reply )
Just now i even tried calling him . he picked it up saying " hello ? " and I said " hi , is this oldies from clubsnap ? " .
And he hang the phone immediately and off his phone.

Thanks.

wow. lol. The other buyer complained about him.

How do I spot a fake Crumpler?

If you’ve handled a Crumpler, you’ll know when you’re dealing with the real thing. Otherwise, remember these two words – quality and workmanship. Fakes skimp on the first, and cut corners on the second. So while genuine Crumplers look and feel like they’ll outlast our legendary warranty, phonies will likely carry one or more tell tale signs:

loose threads and obvious stitching faults
inconsistent colour
stress whitening on moulded plastics
inferior, non-water resistant outer and lining materials
different colour options to those at crumpler.com
different or misspelt product names to those at crumpler.com

also. from your pics. it looks more like a pretty boy than a sinking barge.

Oldies but not goodies. Lol. Will stay clear of this unethical person n will not transact with him, whether buy or sell.

Thanks for the information .
From your pov, do you think that the bag is a fake crumpler? it's brown in colour.

i'm not too familiar with Crumpler backpacks, but i don't expect their padding to be so soft (in your IMG_0639 and IMG_0640)...
why not go down to a Crumpler store to take a look at their Pretty Boy there, touch and feel it to see if it feels like the one you purchased from Oldies?

What he said. The material looks too soft. And u can see the threading yourself.. Very shoddy work. Most probably it is a fake.

Yeah , have to agree that the padding is very soft and i can't use the bag due to that.
i'm more certain that the bag is a fake now.

Do you think i can report this to the police?
Tried calling "Oldies" but it's futile.

maybe it's time about bring justice to unethical people

Wow... i don't think you can do anything to that guy by calling the police. Just suck it up and move on I guess..

Hmmm, maybe try contacting Crumpler to verify if its a fake in the first place, if so go make a Police report and let the Police access if they have a case.

From the IPO website:

Criminal Offences

In Singapore, criminal offences under copyright law include the following:

  • manufacture of infringing copies for sale;
  • sale of infringing copies;
  • possession or importation of infringing copies for the purposes of sale, hire, or distribution for trade or for any other purpose to an extent that will affect the copyright owner prejudicially;
  • distribution of infringing copies for trade or for any other purposes to such an extent as to affect the copyright owner prejudicially.
In any of the instances above, it must be proved that the infringing party knows or ought reasonably to know that the copies are infringing copies.

The law provides that where a person is found to have five or more infringing copies of any work, unless otherwise proven, it is presumed that the possession of the infringing copies was not for the purpose of private or domestic use; or that such possession was for the purpose of sale.

The penalties for manufacture for sale; sale of infringing copies; and possession or importation of infringing copies for the purposes described above are:

  • a fine not exceeding $10,000 per infringing copy, up to a total of $100,000 per charge; and/or
  • imprisonment up to five years.
The penalties for distribution of infringing copies for trade or for other purposes to such an extent as to affect the copyright owner prejudicially are:
  • a fine not exceeding $50,000; and/or
  • imprisonment up to three years.
The making or possession of an article specifically designed for making infringing copies, e.g. machinery for manufacturing infringing copies, is also an offence attracting the following penalties:

  • a fine not exceeding $20,000 per article; and/or
  • imprisonment up to two years.
Also if you google "selling fake in singapore" you can find a thread on ebay forums about a girl who was arrested for selling fake LV on ebay and jailed for 6 months.

No harm trying.

Also FYI I stay clear of Crumpler items ALL THE WAY not because they are not good but because they are many fake ones floating online and on Clubsnap, that is why counterfeiting hurts the brand, 1) nobody wanna buy original if they can have similar fakes for cheap, 2) nobody wanna buy second hand in case I wanna sell because people wonder if its a fake, so best not to buy in the first place, 3) when you carry on some people in the know will ask you, hey is Crumpler fake one, hahaha.

Tell the seller that u are going to report police about selling fake stuff and give him a chance to refund back. If he still doesn't, go ahead with the police report

U still keep all the correspondences with him, right?

And finally, post his number here so that we all know him

I don't think anyone had a case against this Oldies... one thing is...

how was TS going to proof that he bought the bag from Oldies? Was there a receipt or what?

Also what you going show the police was a fake pretty boy but what Oldies had posted was a Sinking Barge. He could easily have claimed that he had never sold you any pretty boy or even sell you anything at all. There simply is no case against this fella.

Phone records, CCTV footage, police interviews. It really depends on whether the police thinks its serious enough for them to take the case up I suppose.

All the SMS and phone calls will be good enough

Hmmm. You're right about the colouring offering. Even looking back at past seasons does not yield any information of another bag of similar colour. Bag does look a little flimsy compared to the pics.

I guess given the advice from other Snappers, why not just give it a try and see if you could get a refund? Otherwise a trip down to the local NPP don't usually take too much time and hope that maybe a case could be made against him.

I took the liberty to SMS the seller and warn him abt potential police report. Let's see if he will contact TS

The pic showing the exterior look very soft, Crumpler fabrics are very tough... My messenger bag followed me up hill and near water for 5 years, the bag still maintain its shape and the fabric still feel tough. But recently I went to Crumpler shop the fabric don't feel as tough as my old bag now, cutting cost everywhere. The logo look like bagman type... I thought the white portion of the Crumpler round logo protrude out more, and now the logo become the square clothes type already.

TS, you can report to police, its a crime selling fakes. Police don't want handle, then no justice liao, report to their boss...
