very mean looking set-up there.

I am looking at purchasing an extra lense that will give me greater zoom. I have to admit though, I have a total lack of theoretical knowledge on terms and etc with the F828 and digital slr's etc in general. I was reluctant to use the 'teleconverter' just in case I was talking about something else by accident.

I guess what I really would like to know is.... if quality zoom is my goal, which is the best lense to purchase for greater zoom and how much extra zoom will I get? Also is it simply a push and screw style attachment like the flower is or does it attach in a different way? Also, when the extra lense is attached, does it feel secure or does it require constant hand support to avoid breaking at the connection points (i had a cannon that had that problem). Sorry about all of the questions but I'd rather get the answers from people who know, as opposed to some guy at a store just trying to sell me something.

Thanks heaps

Bump.... have I asked too many stupids? lol

Hope not :embrass:

If quality is your concern, you have to buy Sony original accessories. They are made to be compatible for best image quality compatibility.

With all these talk about lens addon, Nikon's latest ad on the pairing of Coolpix 8800 and 8400 gave me an idea: since prosumer cams cannot interchange lenses, manufacturers should create prosumer cams with specific zoom ranges to cater for different shooting conditions. For instance, Sony should produce 2 sets of F9x9 series - one for wide-angle 20mm - 80mm and the other for 38mm - 380mm. Fanatics like me would buy and carry 2 cams just like any DSLR geeks would carry multiple lenses. For enhanced features, both cams can interact with each other via wireless technology (e.g. bluetooth).

If manufacturers cared for prosumer markets, they better start building wide-angle digicams (18 - 35mm!!) or dedicated telephoto zoom (135 - 400mm??) digicams.

:P won't that cost twice as much compare to getting a DSLR + 2 lenses?

For wide digicam, you can use Nikon coolpix 5000 + WC-E68 (down to 19mm, 3x zoom fully working) or Nikon coolpix 8400 + WC-E75 (down to 18mm, I think the zoom fully working as well). For dedicated long zoom, Panasonic FZ20. So, where is the problem?

And all of this gear works well with the Sony F828 and is just as good as the Sony genuine lenses and adapters? Why do you suggest to use these products, is the price of these products cheaper than the Sony parts?

The 8400 + E75 combo is a very good suggestion, hope to see more of such WA cams from other makers (hint hint). FZ20 has got the zoom range, good stuff.

But what I'm driving at is that cam makers should learn from Nikon 8400 + 8800 to create complementary products for consumers. With 2 cams, I dun want to invest 2 sets of memory cards, 2 sets of filters, 2 sets of external flashes, etc.

i doubt many people will buy 2 digicam to solve the problem of wide angle and tele. a dslr with 2 lens is more common, since the dslr setup prolly only cost 10-20% more.

also, camera manufacturers tend to prefer making digicam with lots and lots of zoom rather than wide angle lens. reason, the average consumer on the street doesn't bother with the wide angle stuff. when shopping for cameras, consumers tend to compare spec in brochures and see which one has "better" spec. to them a 35-105mm f/3.5-4.9 lens is "better" than a 28-90 f/2.8 lens since it has 15mm "more" zoom.

OK, this is getting a little confusing :o . I simply want the best quality addon zoom lense for my Sony F828. I don't particularly care whether it is Sony or Nikon, as long as it is the best quality possible... the price is a factor but the quality is more important. I have revised my needs and do NOT need a wide lense capability, just the zoom, but the Sony websites don't show what I'm after, or at least no the Aussie one's which I looked at and Sony.com wasn't much more helpful.

Question 1. Which is the best one - based on quality?
Question 2. What is the difference in price?
Question 3. Where do I get the product?

Thanks heaps.
