What make you think that 828 and 300D are at the same price point? You are only comparing 828 with the basic 300D. Try comparing 828 with build-in 200mm lens with 300D+200mm lens again, I don't think you will say they are at the same price point again. :D
Dude, they are at the same price point what. The 300D kit set and F828 street prices are very close.

There's been neverending debate over 300D vs F828 yada yada....enuff has been said...just look at the dpreview forums...IMO they are two different classes of cameras for two different niches of "pro"-consumers. Of course, if you are strapped by budget and looking for an all-in-one package, the F828 would seem to be an attractive choice, feature-wise. There will always be a niche market for these type of fixed lens, prosumer digital cameras, even if DSLR prices drop to around or below their price point. People will always want convenience, ergonomics and best bang for the buck features all wrapped up in a sexy black body. (if the DRebel had been black instead of silver...there may be even less potential 828 users..heheh :D ) Too bad about the purple fringing tho. And even more importantly, as Klipsh had said, "What good is a camera when u cant shoot in anything above iso 200?"? A valid point, and still the biggest pain in the arse for prosumer digicam owners.

They don't taste the same, but the inevitible question is, "for my 30c, which one should i get?" i think you made the point yourself here.

My 30 cents comes with a 28-200mm lens while for the Canon it would be 30 cents + $$$$$ = $$$$$$$$$$$ ;)

Well actually, if you think about it, the 828 is about as expensive as digicams go, and the 300D is the currently the cheapest dSLR. Is so happens that their pricing are about the same. Were there to say, a $1000 gap between them, nobody will be comparing the two at all.

In fact, if it weren't for Canon 'spoiling the market' with the 300D pricing, i think Sony would have happily plonked the 828 in the $2.2k range. Just my gut feel.

Well said! On the flipside the F828 is the best prosumer camera that is on the market now. And not the Canon 300D. Why?
It because the 300D is NOT in the same class - its a DSLR and sad to say its at the bottom of that class (may be not in performance) when compared to the D60, 10D, all the DSLRs from Nikon, Olympus and Pentax.

Like Triton said its apples and oranges.

So which one should I buy? A question I get asked several times a day, and I wouldn't like to say. In a new addition to my reviews (after the amount of feedback I normally get) I've added a link to a specific forum in which you can discuss the review or ask me specific questions which I've not answered in these pages.

For me I am a preorder to this camera. So far IS OK for me. I am not a pro, I have try a lot of night shots in this camera. Acceptable to me, may be you are not. I even go to my Photo lap and print out some 4R with glossy paper. It turn out good as well. I can say this camera not easy to set in a correct white balance from F717. Once you get it, don't off the camera, shot as what you need at night shots. In Day lights, is OK for any good shots. ;)
