sooch68, the kid photo can be further cleaned up with this software:

http://www.neatimage.com/download.html

Beware that this software will remove your EXIF data. But the default will save under a new file name.

For an ISO1600 picture, I must say you have done well. You can start experiment with the manual mode. Where you can cap the ISO. But other things will be affected. Like slower shutter speed maybe applied if say you use the ISO(800) mode to shoot the same picture of the kid. 2 humble cents from me(a photog noob).

Thanks armadillo and cpuer for laying to rest my concerns. I'm more a Canon user, and was a bit alarmed by the colours and all on this F31. Guess I'll do some experimenting. Anyone know where I can find resources on shortening the learning curve for this camera? Mostly shooting people, esp kids... Tips from u guys most appreciated! Thks!

try shooting them yourself is the fastest...

Grain in this pic is normal at ISO1600. Noticed the shutter speed is 1/110s. You may want to use 1/60s at ISO800. Noise would have been much improved like in the white board picture.
