F31fd pics samples for technical discussion (part 2)

What's up with you?

When was F31fd first released?
What is the time gap between these 2 cameras?
Obviously the new F200 is using newer technology you doot!
You tickled my nerves a bit...

Yes, you do.. Firstly, the purple fringing in F31fd is horrible.. this is a well known fact, try taking photo in bright daylight...

Secondly the DR for F31fd is bad, that's why some previous owners left the camp.

Thirdly, the camera is quite narrow at 35mm narrow.

Fourthly, the camera does not have IS, which is critical in low light situation...

Fifthly, the camera is only 3x optical zoom..

and the list goes on...

F31fd was the legend...

seriously, any campers who thinks f31fd can sell at $300+++, they are seriously wrong..

F200EXR is the new king of Fujifilm. F50fd/f60fd/f100 were just pretenders...

F31fd, its time for you to retire
Welcome to the new era of F200EXR

You are not the only one who feels this way. I had a tussle of words with him yesterday (all postings were deleted this morning). I think he realizes that he has pissed many people off.

I immediately bought 2 F31fds and 1 F30 after I saw with my eyes what they are capable of. The night shots from this compact is astounding and much better than my G9. I sold 2 of them (due to the fact that I am now using the S5 Pro) and luckily still have 1 F31fd left, which I will continue to enjoy till it snaps its last shot. Great camera!!

Recently the new F200EXR has created much hype in the forum which totally overshadows the lengendary F31fd. However, looking back at the photos taken with my F31fd, I wonder if it is necessary to retire this amazing cam for an upgrade? :dunno:

Sharing 2 photos here:

I like the river scene..very surreal.
The live view is quite creatively done. :)

TheChef & KopiOkaya: Yes! The F31fd is still amazing despite its age ;)

weixiang1900: You are right, the F200EXR is definitely a better camera with more advanced features. Of course, higher DR & low CA help to produce better image. However, I believe that in order to produce an impactful image, certain degree of post processing is still required to 'release' the soul of the original image straight out of the camera. In that case, the images from the F31fd are clean* and detailed* enough to reveal all necessary details during PP. So perhaps its time is not up yet!

Sharing a few more reservoir pics here taken with the old F31fd:

You must be kidding kid. Asking me to retire my F31fd when it is still capable of taking great pictures and recording clear videos.

I am still loving it. It is so handy and easy to use. Very natural skin clour and tone compared to my G9.

It is my daughter trying to run away. Hard to photograph kids leh. There could also be some handshake since shutter speed is 1/5.3 at ISO100. At this kind of shutter speed even IS also not much use.

its the wordings on the fan that gave the handshake away... anyway.. i took 1/4 photos at ISO400 before, the wordings can still come out sharp and focused... a picture speaks a thousand words.. my EXIF details are still intact...

Taken with F200EXR @ ISO800 1/5s with Image Stabliser on under low lighting

Relax, that was just a casual shot. Increased ISO to ISO400. Shutter speed 1/52, about 10 times faster. Anyway, noise reduction of F31fd is better than F200, so no issue.

In comparison, the Canon G9 seems as sharp at ISO80 at shutter speed 1/6 due to the effective IS. However, the colour rendition of the F31fd is much more realistic. That is why I said, nothing beats the colour of Fuji.
