F30 Show "Card Not Initialized" !!

I think the worst is to overreact and go to the other extreme...

I've had the f30 since july and from day1 transferred using a cardreader (the Mini - similar to the one sold at eastgear for 35 - but i got it for 28 elsewhere) - happy to report that not one file have been lost/corrupted, and mind u I did this in/out almost daily.

However I am careful to do deleting/formatting ONLY ON THE F30.

So with careful handling, the xD is just like another flash memory card.

But a point to note: most of my transfers are under 20 files each time, so just perhaps a larger number of files like 50+ and above may give trouble :dunno: ...perhaps some others might like to verify this.

Same here. I've been using the card reader to transfer my files to pc 100% of the time for years without losing a single photo. However I only format it using cam.

That's remind me that I did actually deleted some pic from the card
using the reader when got back from the Zoo..
Think that might be the cause.
Cos everything is ok before that, till I do the deleting with the reader..:think:

Thanks, read the stuff on the Fuji url and since I have not encountered such problems... see no point to upgrade, it's a hassle to plug the USB on F30 very tight, too tight in fact.

Good advice from you though only format xD on F30 itself, I think that makes good sense.

I am really pissed of because this is my second card, the first one that came with the camera had the same problem but I have not formatted it as I am thinking of sending it to recover the files (photos and video).

borrow and try another card reader if u're using one to transfer the files....
clean the card's and cam's contacts points.... dirt can give this error as well since
i've experience it...

I always transfer the photos from xD card to PC via card reader. I use the F30 to format the card. So far so good, no problem.

Twosix,I have not got the error yet but the card that had problem still cannot be read- both on my laptop and camera. I am thinking of sneding it for file recovery.

hmmm... as for me. when used card reader for the first time, was prompt to format the card via card reader which i decline. however upon inserting the card into F30, had same error msg as u guys. could not retrieve pics/take pics/format via cam or anything. quite pissed la. so took the gamble and format the card using card reader.... n yah.. so far so good. not other probs. no corrupted files no pic lost... yup.

fyi when i trf pics.. ranging 50 to 100 per round. n no prob so till date cheers!

Sux ! The problem is back again. I can't do anything - no matter how many times I format, the erorr is still there.

I have just called Fujifilm service centre and the shop that sold me the xd card and camera (MS colour), I am very suprise to hear that both shop and fujifilm have no warranty on the 1G xd card that sold to me.. (not even 1 day warranty).

I noticed that some other cards (eg SD card) even have life time warranty, but xd card does not have... But when I bought that time, nobody told me that. Now My xd card got problem (cannot be formated), Fujifilm service centre told me that it was beyong repair, and they provide no warranty (even though I bought it less than 5 months) and I have to throw the card away...

I called the shop again, they said they could not help also..

I think Fujifilm has no confident on their XD card technology, that's why they dare not to provide any warranty on their card. I will not buy any camera that use xd card anymore, I think all of you should do the same also ....until they have condident on their card technology...

Can i know how did u solve ur "Card Not Initialized" problem?

I have exactly same problem. I deleted the photos in the xd card using computer. Now cannot format the card on computer and when i put the xd card into F30, it says "Card Not Initialized"

I used to always download the photo using card reader but will out back the xd caed into the camera to format (delete the photo) - it worked fine over 100 times!. This is the first time i deleted the photo on my XD card using card reader..... and the card is screwed!
