f2.8 vs IS

I will choose the faster f/2.8 or even 30mm f/1.4 prime lens because my camera in-built sensor come with anti-shake function. Even if my camera don't come with anti-shake sensor, I will still choose the faster lens compare to slower lens with antishake function.

Right... there's a reason this thread is in 'Canon'.

F2.8 is great for indoor shoot. For night scene, it will work if you just want to take scenery shots. But, for holiday pictures, if you want the person in front to stay in focus, you will need a tripod. Otherwise, the background will be just a big blurr.

what if i wanna take scenery shot with greater DOF? wont IS be more useful than 2.8?

I'm in the mids of considering a 2.8 or IS as well. ;)

hmm scenary shot, in bright daylight for F5.6 and above, i guess dun really need IS right
for night shots, F5.6 and above i think IS can't help much , definitely need tripod
well my thoughts :) unless neither here nor there, sunset or dusk haha then i not sure liao

You'd be lugging a tripod around if you were serious about scenery shots, really, but in daylight, neither IS nor f/2.8 are really essential. As said, at night, IS is also impractical.
