From what I've seen, lightings for all 3 set of photos are different.

:D precisely.
There's no "one set of rules" for shooting in clubs.
It's absurd to assume that there is. Every club is different, and the same club is different at different times.
More-over, I intended to show the different lighting conditions that one would encounter in clubs, and I intentionally choose these pictures. :)

.............

If you are however going to a club for golden year retirees where they are mostly stationary or moving slowly, then u may consider consider F2.8 with Image Stabiliser, may still work :bsmilie:
That's a good one :sweatsm:
Heh good for joke, but in reality, that's really just demonstrates a total lack of understanding of flash photography.
LOL For example, I think yoke may have much problems explaining or even believing that I can capture motion using 1 second shutter speed.

Great tips Unseen!!!

1 other question, where's the best place to learn about clubs + flash photography?

keep the sharing going!! Thanks heaps everyone!
Hmmmm well I learnt about clubs and flash photography in clubs of course.... The best teacher is experience. Personally I wouldn't know what to share, because clubs are toooo diversified. Different clubs will have different quirks, stage lighting, etc.

The key to it all, is to understand how I can capture motion with a 1 second shutter speed. The rest is just to play with the settings for an exposure you like. :D

cool.. 2nd curtain is best :)

I'd experiment more :)

Well,

If you intend to shoot in clubs, definitely need to bring flash.

My setup

50D w/ grip
17-50 F2.8
50 f1.4
580Ex 2
------------

Shot in manual mode most the time
Without Flash :-

F2.8 or 1.4 depending on lens
ISO 2000-3600
1/80 minimum

With Flash:-

F3.2 or more
ISO 100
Shutter speed from 1/60 to as slow as 3sec or even slower.

And lastly remember to bring lots of batteries.
