2. Seriously, from my 17" CRT monitor, I couldn't even make out the 'vertical bandings' you mentioned in your 100% crop pics. And how often do you actually print out the full size of your ISO 1600 pics, or even view 100% of your ISO 1600 pics on your computer screen?

.

Sorry, just to check if the "banding" shows on 4R and 5R prints? If it does not, then I would not be too concerned.....

3. The banding is still present at not-so-high ISO, like ISO400 (which happens to be used quite often). Compared to other cameras, the quality will definitely be lower.

4. The banding pattern in the F11 photos is very obvious - I noticed the problem independently and immediately. Having used several cameras before this - several Canons, and even a very old Fuji 6900 with SuperCCD - none of them ever had banding patterns in the image. High ISO noise is acceptable, but a fixed pattern is not.

My guess is that this is a CCD manufacturing problem.

Is there anyway to prevent this if I were to take test shots at the shop, preview and magnify to 100%, would the camera's LCD show the banding? I guess not.....

I would agree with you, if not for the following facts:

1. Not all F11s have the banding problem. This means that those F11s that have banding are defective. For me, I want my defective camera fixed.

2. The F10/F11 are best in class for ISO1600 if there is *no banding*. All the review sets do not have banding. I think if the review sets did have the banding, the camera would definitely not be "best-in-class".

Hardcore,

so did you get your F11 fixed?

Actually, your fixed camera image looks quite ok. I agree that some of the others pics posted here show excessive banding but the wine bottle image you postedlooks OK to me.

Actually, did any of your old cameras had ISO1600? The F11 is the best in its class for ISO1600 as there are no cameras in its class with ISO1600, full resolution. You can't really expect much from a P&S at ISO1600. Acually for a P&S useable ISO800 is very very good already.

Did your fixed camera show banding at ISO400?

From my old F11, I rated the ISO1600 unuseable due to too much noise, like your wine bottle pic. Not due to banding. ISO800 is pretty good for a P&S.

I think you have to view the pictures on a LCD to see the banding and some noises...

Last time, also seen pictures that were commented to have noise, but when i view it on my CRT cannot see any noise at all. But if u were to view it on a LCD, the noise and banding become more prominent.

Just curious... in this case, is the photo really showing banding or issit the limitation of the LCD?? Cos when i use a CRT i really cannot see such banding... but on the LCD it is very clear. Anyone can help to answer my queries...

sent my camera to fuji for service already... hope that they can solve the bandings problem...will update you guys on the result.

I can see the banding on a CRT and my HD plasma tv as well. Its not related to the LCD. Probably the reason you cannot see it on your CRT is because the Brightness adjustment on your CRT is too low - so you dont really see the shadow areas.

The banding also happens in lower ISOs. Here are 2 crops from an ISO200 (!!!) picture that show obvious banding.

Again, the crops above were taken from an ISO200 photo! ARGH!

wow i wasn't able to log in for the past few weeks, not even when i changed password.. resorted to getting a new id. my cammie, so unfortunately, had a little tumble and fall last Tuesday! Was originally wondering if it showed any vertical banding, and after the fall, started worrying even more..
so far i haven't noticed any vertical banding but i'm not too sure if it's cos my eyes aren't sharp enough. what do you guys think?
First two shots are before his fall from grace(actually, a table la).. both taken at iso1600 without flash.

The latter two are taken soon after his fall from grace.. at iso1600 with flash

at iso800 without flash.

From what I can see, they are perfectly fine.

And and Michael68, you share the same name as an MP of Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.

Your photos look fine! Good news since that means that some batches (hopefully the new batches) of F11s have fixed this problem. If this is really the case then I can possibly get a swap with a new set.

Hey guys! I just bought a F10 today and I got these banding too! They are very very apparent! And this shot is taken at 800iso

wah your's banding quite bad at ISO800....

you got a F10?? not F11?

Yes, the F10, not F11

Everytime I look at that picture it remember me the code screen who appear in The Matrix, lol

and you can still crack jokes about it! wahahaa.

elhire, yr f11 seems ok with no visible banding.

Looks like you got a very bad set. Try swapping it for a new one at the shop. Bring a laptop to test. Hopefully they have a good set there.

BTW, there were some folks in the US complaining about banding on their F10s. I guess yours is one of the 'newer' batches with this problem, same as the F11.
