F1 lens choice from 3 options

i tried several setups last year (was a pain to bring all the gear i had)

85 1.2, 135L , 70-200 2.8L with 5d2 and 7D.
I was thinking that with a 5D2 and a wide aperture i can shoot through fence get nice shots of the cars with the environment.
This did not work - even the 70-200 2.8 on the 5D - cannot get rid totally of fence - dunno why.

But the 70-200 on 7D - its great. Doesnt make sense why its not the same on 5D2 - its the same lens anyway. But maybe because the car subject is bigger i notice less of the fence.

u are probably not close enough to the fence.

I shot this sheep behind some fence using a 70-200mm f4 with my 5DMKII at f5.6.

Any of you guys going to the Paddock Club on Sat? Maybe we can meet up in there and shoot together -- and exchange tips. Or anyone have experience shooting in Paddock before and can give some tips on what to bring and where to shoot?

Also any advise on shooting thru Glass? The Paddock Suite is above the Team Garages -- so can also get some action shots of them changing tires and such

Cheers

to shoot thru glass, u can either use a CPL filter or stick your camera into the glass (it might look and sound silly but it works).

Thanks will do that ... haaahaa ... don't mind looking silly for a good shot! ;)

if u want better shots, try take off your filter before sticking your camera into the glass, this is to prevent further unwanted reflections,

actually, paddock club is not the best place to shoot the cars in action...

this is the best action shot i've got, i went out on the paddock grand stand during the entire race...

altho you can get shots like this which is quite seldom (kudos to my wife for taking the shot)

and while they're doing pit-out-pit-in

Thanks for the tip ... yah, I figure that too. The 2nd floor is not high enough to go above the fence. And there is no roof like the Sky Suite across. I plan to go to the grand stand too. I think I may end up mostly human subject shots and the pit lane walk

Will post if I get good shoots =)

Then you may have a problem with the narrower aperture. Unless you bump ISO 6400 upwards.

used the 70-300L in the end. not bad results hehe. shall post some when i have the time. limited myself to iso 1600 - 3200 still

nice set! i also wanted to shoot at Trun11 but have no enough time to get there...
