EZ link card with Giro

I kena conned.

Hahaha.... Juz read LTA's reply on CNA.

GIRO top up is now classified as PREMIUM SERVICE. ;)

Convenience and now Premium!

No doubt GIRO provides convenience to the commuter. And the service provider may bet on the consumer willing to pay for the convenience. However, consumer can always do away with the "convenience at a fee", and they can choose to use the GTM to top up their farecard.

If majority of the consumer uses the GTM and only a handful uses GIRO, it'll be a real test on the infrastructure whether it can efficiently handle the volume of transactions.

Sooner or later, the service provider will realise that GIRO will save them a lot of money, and may introduce some measures to entice consumers to apply for GIRO, and maybe waiving the "convenience fees" for good.

Let's see who are the one that suffers more inconvenience w/o GIRO. If consumers can stand together and act in unity, we'll see who will hold on longer w/o GIRO. Of course this is based on the assumption that they do not use "increase in operating cost (due to under utilization of GIRO and over utilization of counters & GTMs)" as a reason to raise fares, when the "increase in operating costs" is due to their incompetence and refusal to provide a cost-saving and efficient system like GIRO foc to commuters.

I think no Singaporean will be so stupid to make use of this new Giro service, unless they are loaded, but if they're loaded, they would be driving cars instead. If anyone is indeed that stupid to use the Giro service, then I really will be having a good laugh.

I think in the end, the demand for this service will determine if Ezlink will continue with this service at all. All GTMs and ATMs will be packed with people and they'll see who will benefit in the end for charging such a absurd price for this PREMIUM and CONVENIENT service.

I agree in principle with you, but just during coversations with my friends, I gather that some would be willing to spend that 25c in order to save the time in the queue. ~sigh~ I think EZ-Link is banking on this group to sustain demand...

There was once 2 cards... Cash Card and Ezlink Card.

Both ask ppl to use to become cashless society so that ppl park their $$$ in their banks to earn interest.

They also save money for not having to count the money at the end of the day and also do not need to engage escort to do banking
and not risking being robbed and also those not so honest employees. and also charge the vendor ..

Both start with no charge as they charge the vendors instead of users.... vendors refuse to use

So company must make money.... so users are now stuck... no cash card cannot enter CBD. If use cash to travel no discount..

Use Ezlink card must pay service charge when you park your money with them to earn interest.... it is all about $$$$$$ and business decision

Now there is going to be one card for all.... one card company charge...everybody charge.... just like the petrol.

Shall we go to 2 cards with 2 compaines to create competition or for conveience sake use only one card?

Be transparent.. tell all what other service charges are you going to make the users pay when we are trying
to make/save money for you!

Can top-up at ATM too.. and it's all over SG.. no need to queue at the GTM.. unless.. well, you're stranded with zero value in the card. (correction: less than "minimum value" in the card)

hahaha yeah, but then DBS/POSB ATMs are notoriously crowded too... :)
I'm willing to go this route just to stand by my principle that EZ-Link cannot blatantly charge people without proper justification, even if the amount seems small.

Accumulate those $1 coins till you have $20, then go top up at the counter. If everyone does that, EZ-Link should get the message.

is there any charges if i top up EZ-link at ATM?

Why not try using 5 cents instead? :)

And also willingly pay a deposit to Ezlink which equals to the top-up amount? :dunno:

Those who are willing to pay 25 cents should switch to the credit card based systems; those have no need for deposit.

In fact, I don't see any advantage in GIRO at all. There will be two groups only:

1. Those who dont want ot pay 25 cents - they will stick to cash at the top up machines or ATM.

2. Those who don't mind paying 25 cents - they can use credit card; earn points and don't need deposit.

Now which idiot will want to go GIRO? The only group I see are those without credit cards. In this day and age, I think almost everyone has credit cards; those who don't, at least have their parents' credit cards; or at the worst, get a S$500 limit card or debit card. :)

Bro, you should say the only group that will go to Giro are those without credit cards, are lazy to top up using ATMs/GTMs, and don't mind paying the deposits! :bsmilie:

Oh yes, you are correct, I thought the second two factors are a given haha! But good for you to restate them again.

With this exercise, I realised that I seldom use my EZLINK card anymore (since I slowly moved towards cars and taxis due to laziness haha), so I'll join the group of people who will not opt for a GIRO card. I will probably start with a non-linked card to exchange first; since there's that stupid month end deadline (make people rush to sign up only, pressure puke sales tactics) and then consider whether to link to credit card later :)

read this their long await reply

With regards to your query, the nominal $0.25 fee covers the processing cost incurred in the provision of the EZ-Reload service.
It is to cover the entire end-to-end process of providing that service. This fee is incurred only when the automatic top-up facility is used. How often the card holder automatically tops-up his card depends on the extent of usage and how much he tops-up his card each time.

We would like to highlight that EZ-Reload is a premium service that is offered in addition to the numerous free top-up channels that are already available to commuters, such as General Ticketing Machines, Add-Value Machines, TransitLink Ticket Offices, Passenger Service Counters at MRT stations.

In addition, top ups of ez-link cards at all DBS/POSB ATMs and AXS D-Pay stations are similarly, currently free of charge.

what a premium service top class

In another words, it's as good as saying: you like it or not, if you want Ezlink with Giro, just pay.

What choice have we been given? :thumbsd:

next time even credit card companies, PUB, telco etc will charge $0.25 to allow us the convenience to pay our credit card bills via bank transfer or AXS or cheques so that we can pay our bills in full and on time in order to avoid the penalty of late charges for overdue payments

EZlink has set the trends.

I also hate them. lets boycott them but not using the GIRO one.;( EVEN if they will 'incur' additional costs they should absorb it like any other business.

Other businesses such as AXS machines (also privately run), internet banking, credit cards (I never ever pay for the annual fee, always call to ask for it to be waived and I never let any CC earn a single cent before from late charge or interest) also do not charge for their service.

there was a good and direct letter published in today's Straits Times forum page regarding the EZ-Link issue. Gregory Gerald Danker must be squirming in his seat now, figuring out how to answer both today's letter and the one by CASE a few days ago.
