U're right but for ETTL-II results to be fully shown, you will still need an ETTL-II flash.

at the risk of OT, can you explain what functions are present in the 430/580EX which is not in the 420/550EX? what data are required from a "ETTL-II" flash unit?

430EX and 580EX have colour temperature controls and have better light metering due to ETTL-II. ETTL-II also have distance info for precise and improved flash exposure than ETTL.

Can you tell me about how the 430EX col. temp. control works, and is there some manual setting that I can do to adjust the col. temp?

I couldn't find it in my flash's manual. :dunno:

Oh that i cannot tell u yet cos i've not tried it. I only read from the specs hehe

it depends on the type of pics tat ya taking. if it's just a hobby, loose the flash, u pro don't nd it. if u r taking lots of wedding assignments, you will pro nd both.

as i always say, get a grip

Both are important. But i think the flash is more important, esp during indoor events. Can't live without it. grip is more for a matter of convenience and comfort in usage. but since u use a 350D, then the grip is also pretty much essential also haha, 350D is so small!

Yes i agree!! Flash is used almost everywhere and anytime.

If you do a lot of indoor shoot (excluding studio shoot), then a flash first.

I actually did a wedding shoot without a grip before, but flash a must. But those were the old days because it was a flim SLR and 1 batt change was made for flash...

Lotsa pros i heard use flash in all sorts of situation ppl think it's unnecessary like bright daylight conditons. goes to show how impt flash is haha..

There were a few times I saw people shooting at night along side of a road pointing at oncoming traffic.

I suppose the flash can blind the driver.

Is there any law / regulation against this? or just common sense + courtesy?

No there's no law against this though there's a traffic law that states drivers should dip their headlights when driving.
