Extended Warranty for Nikon?

Guys, just to share my experience about the extended warranty from HN. What had mentioned about servicing the camera body or lens after 1st year warranty is expired is true where you have to call HN cutsomer servie hotline to mention your invoice number (so must keep your inovice properly and try not to loose it) and also mentioned what is the problem. Then you can go directly to Nikon service centre for servicing and a quotation will send to HN for approval to go ahead on your servicing.

Follow by, those who had bought the extended warranty on photo equipments and would like to sold the whole or partial set of equipments within the warranty period, you may do so by photocopy a copy of the original invoice and give it to the new buyer and also do brief him/her on procedures servicing the photo equipments.

hope the above can be in help for some here. Just my 2 cents worth of advise. Cheers

Thanks crocs.

Reason I ask is because I understand the batt grip for D300 can accept EN-EL4 and EN-EL4a. Haha if give EN-EL4 more value for money mah...

the package i got comes with free bag.. but i told the salesperson i dont wan the bag... den i ask him can give battery anot... he agreed... and even give me the bag.. :P

Hi ray, is HN still having promotion for the D300? How much are they selling it?

I'm also planning to get the D300 and prefer to have extended warranty for it too as the camera ain't cheap and I don't see myself changing the camera soon. However, if the price that HN is offering is too much higher than what we can get from other shops, I'd go without the extended warranty.

you have to call HN to check whether they still have the promotion.. when i got my D300... the y have a promo for buying the body @2500+ (cant remember the exact figure) and 2999 for the IT show promo (body + bag + len brush + battery grip). Extended warranty is optional (varies from 2-5 yrs)

:)

Thats a speedy reply! Thanks for sharing.

By the way, I'm new to photography and I'm looking at D300 as my first DSLR, but I'm hoping to get it at a budget of maybe 4K with a decent lens, I'm considering the 18mm-200mm. Hoping to get some comments on this combination as a startup, and where should I get it?

Also, is it really worth paying for extended warranty? How often does a camera like D300 breaks down, or needs servicing?

18-200mm is about $1.2 - $1.3k. a few lens you can consider. 16-85mm - $950. 18-70mm, 18-135mm etc etc (can check out BnS thread). extended warranty cost a couple of hundreds more but it cover you till 3- 5 yrs (depend how long the period you purchase). for me i bought the extended warranty becos... the D300 is an expensive cam jus wanna give it a better coverage.. so i can send in to nikon if anything fails. :)

Wow! D300 for yoru 1st DSLR... way to go!!! It is a really fantastic cam... but I must say that there is a learning curve... so read the forums, experiment, ask questions, meet with others who have the D300 and learn, learn, learn...

The D300 + 18-200VR is a good combination to start off with... it would suffice for many things. If you could increase your budget to get a flash would be very helpful, either SB600 or SB800.

Whether extended warranty is worth it is really up to you. No one really knows how often the D300 would break down as it was just released in Nov 07... but based on the track record of Nikons D100 & D200... it is a real workhorse. Also, if you get a lemon... then you may need to send it in for servicing, but if not... it should be a really hardy piece of equipment.

From what I know D300 doesn't have kit set over in S'pore but I saw a shop in Peninsular selling few sets of D300 kit set with the 18-200 VR lens packaged inside and the big box has Japanese words on it, guess maybe for the Japanese market. I didn't ask about the price though.

Have to beware of some shops in Peninsular

Yap yap. Those I think are grey sets? And I believe they are not selling it cheap maybe more for tourists.

Thanks Gerald, appreciate the advice. :)

I actually own a super zoom camera, the Lumix DMC-FZ18 (bought it last month), which I bought from Courts, with its 2 years extended warranty that also includes accidental damage cover for physical damage or damage cause by liquids. Anyone ever experience claiming over these?

Ray, if Courts really provide this coverage, maybe you want to check out their offer as well. I might go over to Courts & Harvey this weekend to see which gives a better deal. I'm really itching to get the D300 and start learning, if anyone knows of a better offer, please do let us know.

If I'm not wrong a fellow hobbyist here bought his D300 body without all the extra gimmicks for $2500 flat.

Hope someone can answer this.

If I got my D300 not from HN or Courts but from some other shop outside like ie Lords, how can I get an extended warranty? Does Nikon offer that?

Nope... no extended warranty...

Nope. The extended warranty is by HN itself

I just called HN this morning, the current price is similar to IT Show @ 2999 with battery grip. Extended warranty is 292 for additional two years. This isn't really a great deal for me as I won't be needing the battery grip for the time being and this is kinda way out of my budget.

Ray, is this package similar to what you saw at HN? I saw another thread where someone says that he got the D300 from HN for 2700 + 99(2 years extended warranty), and it comes together with a whole lot of free gifts, including a dry cabinet (http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348526).

Extended warranty is not transferable. The invoice has yr name and all particulars. I have own 2 products with extended warranty with them if i remember correctly under the fine prints it says warranty not transferable.
