maybe you miscomprehend, i think leong's point is that no one here wants to lord it over others, unlike elsewhere.
when i shoot, i shoot for myself. i feel happy to shoot, i feel happy when i get good shots.
when i comment, i comment because i feel that i have a point of view that needs to be expressed. the starting point is to convey something, to have an exchange of ideas, to have communication. it is not to raise myself up on a platform and announce with a loudspeaker that "i have made it", and "someday, people will take pictures like me".
one mountain is higher than the others. most of the frogs in the well will never see this, and then are happy to proclaim themselves king... when you look at the huge pile of great photographers out there, you will realise that what is considered good in clubsnap is frankly, just normal standard in the larger scale of things.
this is why i always share great photos from a load of great photographers out there that i know are much better, more committed, and enjoy photography. i think it is downright disgusting when people just post comments (best of all, not even on the picture, but just some cryptic RUBBISH about how they are leading people to think and learn) to gain some sense of superiority...
i can only hope one day, they will look back and feel glad that they have spent so much time spreading and preaching unhappiness, and that they do not feel that they had wasted that time and effort to inflate their ego, when it means zilch. nothing.
i don't know how to be blunter than this, but my wish is that you, as a young girl, do not just go around idolizing. clubsnap should be a community where people share out of goodwill, not to gain popularity, have more followers, feel happy that a lot of people want to talk to them and pat their backside. we are all learning... and my wish is that people see each other as equals, communicate clearly and succinctly... to help each other improve.
