Yes, both are adult and very common, the small one is the male.

I remember during NS days, always had to avoid them when doing fire movement inside forest. :bsmilie:

they are out when the weather is drier.
I've just learnt that they build 3-dimensional webs. partly because they are web spiders and their webs are always exposed to weather conditions. so in case one breaks, they still have another layer of web to survive on.

anyway... dunno where they hide during the wetter seasons.

it's like "now you see me everywhere, later you don't"
 

another interesting story to share about orb spiders.

the female spider is rather ferocious. the male can only mate with her when she is busy feeding. otherwise, the male gets eaten up if he tries to mate when she is very free.

i think it's just a shell cos of the slit.

looks like a cicada nymph.
