ah, motherboard failure.

that seems quite bad. my asus laptop had a motherboard failure once, but after replacement during the warranty period it's been running well for the past 3 years.

i don't like acer laptops, they seem to have overheating problems. everytime i go near my cousin's acer laptop it seems like it's going to catch on fire anytime.

i am looking at dell - but they don't seem to have a space-saving solution. the all-in-ones they have have at best a core duo processor, not much improvement from my laptop if you ask me.

maybe i will go for a tower pc after all, i guess. i do think that there will be heating issues with all-in-one pc.

I am also looking for a new pc for my parents. i reckon that it is not advisable to buy a self assembled one again. As i am hardly at home, my dad will probably carry the entire cpu down to SLS without letting me check first. I also don't have the time to figure out the problem or trot down to SLS to buy a new hardware for them.
I am looking at dell too. They have 3 yrs onsite warranty and my parents can invite the technicians to my house for tea.
DIY comps rules! Mac rules too lah! Parents don't seem to think so. ;p

her reason for buying: dslr takes better picture than digicam she wants to take nice pictures without flash. :cry:

I have several similar experiences too! So far, 2 have bought LX3 and one bought G11 cos they don't want to spend more than $1k. Another bought D90 and the photos r like sai then say D90 not good enough! Tell your friend that if her skill is good,any camera will do. A friend of mine takes nice photos with just an iphone. I like the photos she took of me. (check out my fb profile photo.)
When i had my coolpix 4500,my photos were sai-er than now and i grumbled about the camera being too good for me. A schmate who was using a canon ixus at that time played with my coolpix and the photos turned out great. The problem lies with the photographer lor.

I like DIY comps. My old one lasted for 5yrs! This time round the new comp is for my parents and they prefer less hassle. They have never tried a mac n they don't see the need to spend on one. The problem lies with me....when i view dell online,i can't help but compare with a DIY. the price,the specs etc. Moreover i have lost touch with comps,not sure what is the latest specs. ;p

Andrew, for the flash bracket, check up the b&s since you are not rushing, sometime got ppls give up macro and sell it relatively cheap.
