Rangefinder camera unlike slr have no mirror in front of the shutter. So when the lens cap is off, whatever light will fall on the shutter instead of being reflected to the viewfinder of a slr. When u put the camera facing up to the sun, like a magnifying glass, the concentrated projection of the sun burns the thin cloth shutter easily...
