In your opinion, what percentage of fault should each bear?

I would say the young chap about 95% and the old guy 5% or less depending. As the fault i find in the old man is his reply of "I am much older than you". Which i would presume the young chap took this as 'rude'. One can't tell whether is it rude or not unless he/she is there to listen to their conversation. I believe that being rude or friendly etc. is in the tone and not the words.

On a side note, I saw a lot India foreign workers actually give up their seat for elderly instead of our local youngster.

Yeah, after all every situation has 2 sides. Actually in terms of who would give up their seat for elderly depends on individual.
There was once i gave my seat to this ah ma and this indian foreign worker pushed her away and took the seat. I politely said in english "Can you please stand up and let the old lady seat?"
He just continued chatting on his phone, ignoring me until I shouted damn loud "Oi!" than he quickly jumped up. :angry:
