No la Bkt ger, i bbb raynox is on top of my macro lenses.. wanted extra magnification.. bt prefer to use extension tube or tc.. as seldom go beyond 2:1 nwdays.. :)

Thing is i find 100 just nice. Not too long, not too short. But sometimes 100 is really not enough for those very shy insects...
Ahhh decisions decisions decisions...

You mean 180 tough to use or...?

Andrew using 180, if u really serious, i say go for long lens with proper setup (tripod etc..)

100-105 is nice for portrait shoot too (human i mean).

But i sold it twice, after i got my 85 mm f1.4. :bsmilie:

Anyway, i find the 105 can't go too close for insects close-up also. I am those that prefer "portraits" of insects.

I mean, i find, stacking magnifying optics or use of extension tube on a shorter lens a bit of a hassle.

And if i need to take a full body, i may be able to move back to take also.

But again, i don't have sufficient experience to say which is better also. :)

Hmm thanks for sharing! Yeah 100 is more versatile that's why i'm leaning close to 100 and if i really need the reach, till then i slowly save up again for 180.

But wth am i saying? I now flash also don't have. Pfft...i think too far ahead liao. :bsmilie:

Omg really?! You type until like supporting 100. But anyway i'm giving my reasons on 100 lah. 180 i don't know whether is it overkill for me this kind of hobbyist or not..

Aiyo! You already have macro lens already why still keep it. Not selling it?

With a 180mm, you can't handhold it. So you'll need a good tripod and flash set-up.

For a start, you can go cheap and get the Tamron 90mm first, it's about $600++ Then add a flash, this set-up would be able to shoot most of the subjects decently.

When you have more moolah, then get the 180 with a tripod and mebbe one more flash and flash arms...:devil:

100mm range more flexibility, can use for other purpose ie portraits. 180mm will be specialized dedicated for macro, of coz 180mm will give better working distance and isolation of subject, cleaner background. 180mm definitely need to be on tripod... see how serious you are into it. :)

Ya, cos with 100, may need the extension tube etc, which i am personally lazy to use. :bsmilie:

And human portrait, nothing beats 85mm f1.4, 135 f2, 200 f2 (if you can handhold) and 300 f2.8.
*All personal preference, don't come shoot me.
