Judging from prev model in that line, sunny day need maybe 3-4 min at ISO 100, F/4.

No.... Old models also got strong IR blocker..... Doesn't depend on the old or new one.. Depend on camera model.

D70 IR blocker not strong, D80 IR blocker strong..

Sometimes, you just anyhow shoot here and there, look at more pictures

Will give you clearer direction what you really like shooting.

My first major purchase (and still my most expensive lens) was Sigma 10-20.. Never regret it.
