You need to research abit deeper into it. Not everyone thinks what he did was inspiring. Some would say carelessly stupid or suicidal. the movie over play what one way but it is hollywood after all. It romanticise.

again, it just one that how you want to view it nor that one has be like him that to do the same thing. And i do see some people critique about them, just like you have mentioned above. Again, who can please everyone?

He do want to return (base on the show) but he couldn't as it been blocked by the river for him to back track his route. But he never regret about the path he chosen, just see his "last words" before his death.
