Not the fastest, but 'fast' af for me and shooting needs. Assuming u refering to nikkor 35mm f/1.8 dx

When people say a lens is "fast", they do not mean the AF. A "Fast" lens means it has a large aperture giving you ability to shoot with faster shutter speeds.

People usually consider F2.8 (some say F2) and larger as fast apertures.

Up to you and your style. Some use their 18-55 kit. Others use a 35mm. Or a 50mm. Or a 85mm. Or a 135mm. Or a 70-200. Or a 75-300. Or a 70-400.

I think you know what I'm trying to say - use the lens that suits your style and your needs.

depends on your style.

Are you the gungho type of street shooter where u walk up to your subjects and shoot point blank? - any wide angle or 50mm (myself I prefer 35mm)

Are you the shy type of street shooter who prefers to shoot from far without your subject knowing? - 85mm or any zoom lens longer then 85mm (sometimes depending on situation, I will use my 200mm)

most of the time i prefer to use my 35mm for street shoot.

These cover 90% of my needs.

On my FF, usually for my commission event:

17-35F2.8-4
28-75F2.8
70-200F2.8IS (w/ 2x TC)

For traveling: 28-300VC+ 17-35F2.8-4 on FF or 18-200IS + 12-24 (Sigma) on crop with either 50 or 85

For my other primes: 90 & 135. It's mainly reserve for specific shoot.

these two serves me most of the times. again it depends on what you want to shoot.

3 primes, 35, 50, 85, no need 1.4, coz I want them to be light weight as these are just supplementary.

The trinity, 14-24, 24-70, 70-200, can do most jobs with these 3 lens alone.

One macro, 105 is good.

One back up midzoom, plastic, cheap, and dispensable.

Anything too special, eg Tilt shift, fisheyes, super teles like 300mm up etc, rent, not practical to buy due to low usage vs high cost.

if u can afford the price, go for 17-50mm f2.8 lens. It's more like a general zoom lens with low light capability. Others is more like special event lens which you might rarely use.

Canon user here, I have the EF 20mm f2.8, EF 50mm f1.8, EF 100mm f2.8 Marco, EF 70-200 f2.8 L and the EF 24-105 f4 L. Used to own EF 16-35 f2.8 L but sold it away!

I wish for the EF 24mm f1.4, EF 35mm f1.4 and EF 100mm Marco L. Wish to rent the EF 400mm f5.6 or f2.8 L should One day I got chance to go Safari
