The old lady and this old man were mending and sewing rather worn and old shoes and bags. Stuff that many people here (myself included) would not hesitate to just throw away. A local traveler I met told me times were so hard in the old days under Mao, and the villagers were so poor and life was so hard. They were already comparatively much better off now after Deng.

This duck is not a pet, it's dinner! Pigs, chickens and ducks are sold live at the market and brought home before being slaughtered. For pigs, there is also a wet market selling pork so you don't have to buy the whole live pig (prices start from around just S$50 if you wanted one!).

Very nice series. May I know what lens you used for this trip?

.... while our children play with a tablet.

The kids here have very few toys. They improvise, and their playground is the great outdoors. Actually I did wonder how come they weren't in school...I was there during weekdays and school hours.

Edit - maybe because they were of pre-school age...don't suppose they have pre-schools in the rural areas. Some of the things I take for granted in Singapore.

Thanks! I used only manual lenses for this trip together with my 6D. My UWA was a Zeiss 18mm. My walkabout lens was the Leica R 90mm Elmarit. I also used a 35mm Zeiss and 180mm Leica R APO. My back-up camera was my little RX100 and those photos with the 'toy' effect was taken with that.

wow, legendary lens and fabulous manual skills. what kind of adaptor is required to mount these lens on 6D ?

For these 2 shots, a Canon 6D and Leica R 90mm Elmarit.

Nice sceneries, beautifully taken, Like #25,26

The lens is great but not sure if it can be considered legendary! Leica R to EOS adaptors. You can get them easily on eBay.

This was shot at around 10am when the sun was already blazing and it was rather hazy. The story I wanted to capture though was how big the rice terraces in Yuanyang are. If you could imagine or spot a farmer on the rice terrace, he/she would be the size of an ant.

Wonder what this village boy was pondering about...or just gazing at the fantastic view.

I realized later that it was not a common sight to see a villager carrying an umbrella even though it was quite hot and sunny during the day. This mother was probably making the extra effort to shelter her baby?

I'll wrap up this thread with my favourite 'model' from Pugao Laozhai village. She stopped running momentarily when she spotted and recognized me in the distance to strike a pose.
