shxx happens.

I hope you did'nt forget to enjoy the scenary with your eyes.

Can the temperature of something drop below the ambient temperature? No matter how strong the wind is, if it is at the ambient temperature, it won't bring the temperature of anything under the ambient temp... Moreover, the camera produces waste heat... that's supposed to warm it, albeit a little in such conditions.

Hi,

This could be one typical reason which I experienced before - Condensation at the shutter.

And the other is yes, you left the camera setup open without covering and though it is 5 degrees and most cameras should not have a problem. But when the breeze comes and with the metallic construction of the body and lens, tendency that the accumulated temperature within the body could have dropped to well below the ambient temperature.

Did you try again now that you are back in Singapore?

Yeah I did. Still got the error.

Cam's with CSC now. They said they've got quite a backlog of work so I may be cam-less this Christmas. :(

Oh man, that must've sucked. But I'm sure you enjoyed the trip with your family, and the rest of the photos were ok!

Its not true that the xxD series cannot survive in extreme temperatures. I was using my 50D in negative temperatures (-5) for 7 days in Beijing, it worked perfectly.

Aaron
Even my Sony Digi Cam T200 worked at -10 degrees for 14 days overseas. :)

And in tagalog, "malay" means something similar to "I don't care"... :)

(correct me if i am wrong)

Just an update on this (thought I should).. I just got my 40D back from CSC. The shutter unit was replaced. Since it's covered by extended wty until Mar 2010, I didn't have to pay anything.

Cheers!

It's possible, that's called the Wet Bulb temperature. Ambient temperature is measured in Dry Bulb temperature.
