its been to schmidt for upgrade. how come 8000 is gone and I have a 8s on the dial?

Experts please advise

not an expert, but just to share...

part of the M8 upgrade programme was the change to a slightly quieter shutter (the same as the one in the M8.2). however, the downside to the new quieter shutter was that the max speed is reduced to 1/4000 sec from 1/8000. correspondingly, the max flash sync speed is also reduced from 1/250 to 1/180.

difference in dials
M8 - 1/8000, flash sync 1/250, slowest speed 4s (and B)
M8.2 - no 1/8000, flash sync 1/180 (between 1/250 and 1/125), slowest speed 4s (and B), additional S (Snapshot mode)

other upgrade offered was on the sapphire glass rear LCD screen. hope this helps.

your dial looks distinctly like the M9 dial...

Hi,

If he had opted for the complete upgrade package, the bright line frames in the viewfinder will be changed for more precise viewing at longer distances as well.

Same like bennyboey, previous owner did the upgrade. No idea how long it takes. Can call Schmidt and ask them. They are quite helpful with enquries.

From what the previous owner told me, it cost him USD$1900 for the full upgrade package i.e change viewfinder, change to low noise shutter and sapphire crystal lcd cover + they will give the camera a quick check-up to see if its working well. Cost does not include the freight to Solms!

Same same... hee

Somehow still love the feel of film. minus the trouble to send here and there plus the huge cost from Leica.

My m6 ws drop , knocked and traveled all over the world on my business trips still takes great pics. Most importantly ,has never fail . Shoot at 1/15, 1/8 no problem.
