Hi Kenny, how much is it to rent the FX1E for 3 days? Is there at least 1 XLR input? :)

Regards,
Stanley

Sony has decided that XLR and balanced audio is outside the realm of the consumer. While this is quite debateable, if you will have long runs to a mic, or in electrically noisy environments, using a balanced line is desireable. The "balanced" moniker comes from a differentially driven signal with a Hi and a Lo both opposite with respect to ground, and "XLR" is the connector commonly used for balanced lines. Any external electrical induced noise will be applied equally to the hi and lo lines, and be cancelled out when the "real audio" signal is extracted from these lines with respect to the common (ground) line in the cable.

If you really desire to use balanced lines with XLR connectors, there are compact phone-to-XLR adapters available, some fairly small. Still, I agree that this doesn't replace the convienence of "built-in".
For most uses, and when not needing XLR or multi-channel recording, the HDR-FX1 has all that is needed for good audio flexibility. When I can get some audio tests done (with the internal mic and external inputs) I'll post that. This won't be until after the camcorder is publically sold and available.

Hopes it answer your question, btw its $200 for 3 days.

Cheers

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for the prompt response. May I ask if there's a phone-to-xlr cable input on the camera then? :)

Regards,
Stan
