EOS - M3

Will M3 be here? I saw canon sg press release on 5D and 11-24, but no M3 there

Should be made available everywhere in the world except N. America. Apparently, MILCs are not popular there. :bsmilie:

Made a pre order in Japan. Hope its worth it lol.

Japan is giving a great discount on the package with EVF.

The EVF RRP is 33k yen and now is offering with Body for 58k yen (the EVF cost only 3000 yen)

Now my only doubt is how useful the EVF, like can it change focus point while using EVF.

Pardon me for my ignorance.... Why would the M3 be attractive to you when there is already the 100D? I love the 100D. It isn't that much bigger in size than the M series. And best part, you get all the controls in a normal DSLR for ease of use. Don't have to worry about spending more and attaching an external viewfinder. Image quality wise, it should be similar to M3 I believe. Using Canon external flash also feels more balanced.

The EOS-M was attractive when it was first released because there wasn't any Canon APS-C cam of that size. But after the 100D was released and after many complained how slow the EOS-M's AF is, I find 100D makes better sense. Now with the M3, is there something different from the 100D?

It really depends on the use case. In my case, the M3 would be my go to camera when I wanna go light for casual outing and travelling but without sacrificing image quality. The M3 with the pan cake 22mm lens is really compact and has high image quality. For all other things where I needed multiple lens, speed or flash, the bigger size cam such would be my weapon of choice.

Hence, to answer your question, M3 will be more compact and easy to carry. 100D is neither here nor there but may work if its the main camera and user does not have many big lens or flash.

Yes. I ship via Tenso. Estimated cost to be below $50 but do include GST if you are keen.

I think the eos m is still attractive in some ways when you have already owned a "full sized" dslr and just want a "backup" camera that doesn't take up too much weight or space.

Otoh, of cos in the market, there are tons of mirrorless camera that can do better than the eos m, and there are countless times I wanted to get a Olympus mirrorless em camera, but the moment I think of the long term maintaining of it (money to kill the itch and poison lar), it kinda turns me off. But there are times I just need a small camera and yet at the same time be able to back as a 2nd camera for the main which still leads me back to the eos m line... But at the progress of it, it's simply quite disappointing at this stage thou there's great improvements since the abysmal original version. As pointed out, at best, they are only doing catch up...

I'll just sit back, wait and see how this line matures.... Meanwhile, going back to look at em series...

I see... Ok noted. Thanks for sharing your opinions. :)

I like the "M's" because I can mount nearly any glass on the planet on them… in particular, my Leica and voigtlander lenses…try that with your 100D… LOL The M3 is still nice and small and comes with several improvements, including focus peaking and a separate electronic viewfinder… all the better...

At the time.. the orignal M1's were only $200 or so each and I could put two of them in a bag in the space of one 100D…(nothing wrong with the 100D though)..Note: my main camera bodies are a pair of 5D classics.. LOL

Some advantages that come to mind:
(a) 24 vs 18 MP -> advantage will show up when we downsize ISO 6400 images from native sizes to 8 MP
(b) hybrid CMOS AF III vs II
(c) 22 f/2 lens
(d) MILCs look less intimidating than DSLRs

Actually this is something that I am pretty confuse about. I mean, what is the different in the hybrid CMOS AF III as compared to the one used in 70D? Read from Canon's website, the AF speed of 70D (using their new AF system) is around 30% faster (http://www.canon.com/news/2013/jul02e.html)than the Hybrid CMOS AF II. However from Tech radar (http://www.techradar.com/news/photo...e-act-targets-novices-and-enthusiasts-1283748), the Hybrid CMOS AF III is 4 times (which means 400%?) faster than the Hybrid CMOS AF II. Does that means M3 is gonna be much faster in term of AF (liveview) as compared to... say... 70D when it came to liveview AF?

i think at this moment nothing beats sony a6000

I like the Sony bodies,(the A6000 is great) but Even with the metabones adapter, the Sony products cannot AF any of the Canon lenses very well… I do not like to carry two complete sets of glass just for a little bit of AF speed afforded by the Sony… of course I prefer to use small Leica mount MF glass anyway on the mirrorless bodies, so it really would not matter… .. And the Sony A7s is great as well.

Is Canon Singapore going to bring in the M3?
If so, when?
