Well... the EOS-M is the only MILC so far that can autofocus with EF/EF-S lenses. And considering it's a first gen feature, the touch screen controls are well executed.

Yeah..true..

The fiist gen of nex is way ahead of eos-m that was released 2 years ago

EOS-M + 2X teleconvertor + 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS

Compact and lightweight Bird shooter and carry a smaller lens with you, the setup will be perfect for a holiday shooter with the ability as a bird shooter too :)

Of course image quality will be compromised, but for web and small prints, it is good enough.

A fun camera lor....

I think I read somewhere that the gen 2 m is coming out somewhere in feb or mar 2013...

Canon better change the model name then. "M" is getting known as Motionless

They are going to name it m+...how about m sport..m3..m5.

"One will be for a second camera in the company’s new EOS M mirrorless lineup. It’s not a followup camera to the EOS M — that camera is just starting to makes its way into photographers’ hands — but a bulkier sibling. The new mirrorless camera will reportedly be large and feature a built-in viewfinder — something the EOS M lacks. Two new EF-M lenses are also on the way."

So it will be larger and featured a built-in viewfinder.
How about the speed improvement for auto-focus ?

Canon has a rather massive installed base of DSLR users. If they get their releases right, this group will grow even larger. Otherwise, they'll find the number of supporters shrinking.

Unfortunately, so far, most of their releases have been lacklustre... with only the possible exceptions of G15 (return of bright lens but late to the game), 1DX (fast, great AF and great high ISO) and 5D3 (mediocre sensor but great AF).

Eos m may be test base for future canon Dslr. It may once day Dslr will gone of the prima or mirror box. Slimmer & lighter body on Dslr.it can seem the development from Sony semi translucent mirror.it will give canon edge on parts &cost saving.it may reason canon use the crop sensor on the m range to see how it go. It will pave way on the full frame sensor with mirrorless cam with some dial and node to different itself from Eos-m range. It may possible. The map chart development ahead will only lay in the canon r&d department.

Maybe the next model is M-Class....

Just for info, if anyone bought the eos M during the promo period where u can opt for free lens adapter and battery pack. Do give them a call to check is stock available b4 going down. Today went down after work but the battery pack has no stock due to shipment delay. Have to waste another trip to go down.

I do not understand the appeal of the EOS-M at all, and I would advise the TS to stick to his 500D. Yes, the EOS-M is more compact, but the moment you add any lens larger than a pancake or the 50mm 1.8 / 1.4 your portability advantage goes out the window and you are stuck with the disadvantages.

But by all means - go out and buy it - it supports the Japanese economy and they need all the help they can get.

Actually, if the EOS-M has comparable AF speeds to the Olympus OM-D, I would have bought it instantly. The appeal? Not only is the camera body smaller and lighter, the M-lenses are similarly small and light. Of course, if one sticks an EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS on the camera, the small-body advantage disappears immediately. :D OTOH, compare the Panasonic 12-35 f/2.8 and 35-100 f/2.8 lenses to Canon 24-70 f/2.8 and 70-200 f/2.8. See how much smaller the m43 lenses are? Canon needs to do likewise for their m-lenses line-up.

But first and foremost, they must fix their tattered mirrorless AF reputation.

You can't compare lens design like that. The very nature of the smaller m43 sensor size allows such lens design on m43 lenses.

70-200 is a FF lens. Not apsc.

If u were to compare, compare with sigma 50-150/2.8 more appropriate. The best that canon (and Sony n Samsung) can do for their mirrorless, when it comes to fast Tele zoom, is to create sigma 50-150 equivalent and shave off a few mm in each dimension, nothing more revolutionary than that in terms of size.
