EOS M: M for Mirrorless

Definitely, mirrorless bodies will get better and better in terms of AF and usabilities but it takes time. However DSLR native mounts like EF and FX will always require big camera bodies due to large flange distance. Who knows maybe EF-M mount will replace EF mount in a few years time? :)

They'd have to build a much bigger body for anyone to even use a mid level telephoto on the EF-M body.

Canon just need an adapter, just like what Nikon did for their Nikon-1 system, an adapter that comes with built-in tripod mount :)

I will buy if it has AF adapter for EF lenses...then can keep my 50, 85 & 100 primes :)

canon may consider that (lens adaptor).there are 60 EF and 10 plus EF-S mount lens in thier cat.
as the sensor plane on Mirrorless and Dslr cam are has some distance on the lens back element.
Hope the adaptor can compactible to EF and EFS on M mount.
Tripod collar on adaptor is good to have not to stress on the M- lens mount cam.

I may wait and get the second hand unit in the B&S section.
It the body. wait and see the spec first.

Specs are out...aps-c sensor..ef adapter launching with the camera..

Adaptor at launch for EF lenses

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
:D

Nice one for having adapter to EF lenses. The flash looks like a good fit in terms of size, can consider getting one for G1X. Also to me G1X's sensor is performing good at high ISO given it is a cropped sensor, the new mirrorless should be the same, if not better.

Now what's lacking is perhaps an EVF.

From the spec sheet, this camera looks really competitive. If it can combine the AF speed (hybrid of PDAF & CDAF) of Nikon 1, IQ of EOS 7D or 5D II , EF lens adapter, and the video h.264 codec in 1080 x 30p/24p/25p .... we could be looking at the best mirrorless camera to date....

but because there is practically no buttons, meaning handling is menu based, it will not be the best handling mirrorless.

I am most curious about this bit:

- Hybrid CMOS AF (phase-contrast AF)

If they improved it over the 650D then... FWAH! I can live with the lack of controls since it's not going to be my primary camera.

10fps but only focus lock on the first frame, no? CDAF (as of today's technology) is not fast enough to perform rapid AF tracking.

ok..u are changing goal post on rapid AF tracking ? so u agree mirrorless could do more fps than DSLR ?

If that is true, having no manual controls is a big turn down for me.

hopefully they can compete with xpro1 / omd

x-pro1 can do 6fps but it does not make it a better camera than a 40D when it comes to AF tracking. Maybe one day we will see mirrorless bodies that come with 12fps like the 1DX :p

Omd can do 9 fps already. Nikon 1 can do 60fps albeit it has a smaller sensor. I think the technology is there, just a question of whether it makes sense for the manufacturer to include it but at a certain cost for a feature that may not be that important. Unless someday the AF tracking reliability catches up n people start using mirrorless for sports photography, then it starts to make more sense I suppose.

Thanks for the video. I know looks are subjective, but the design looks more awful in the video than it did from the CR photos!

wow all the sudden I feel that the Nikon V1 is such a beauty :embrass:
