In principle should be the same. Same sensor and chip

If you mean both cameras are APS-C sensor, then yes, they are the same. But the 70D utilized a brand new sensor and that was mentioned many times in many reviews. It was like saying an EOS 350D is using the same sensor as a EOS 7D and a 5DmkIII utilized the same sensor as the 5DmkII when all test shown that mkIII had much better noise performance as compared to mkII.

I would believe that high ISO noise level should be better than 700D.

Look excellent. Have you try out the liveview AF and the viewfinder AF? How does they compared to mkIII's AF speed?

I am now a new owner of the 70D camera. Feels good.

One disappointment: PD AF in live view does NOT work for third party lenses. I have a brand new Sigma 30 f/1.4 DC Art lens. It uses PDAF for quick adjustment and falls back on the utterly slow contrast AF for fine adjustment.

However, conventional AF through viewfinder is accurate and fast for the Sigma lens. It works much better than the 7D camera I used to own and the spanking new copy of 7D in my office.

Wow! That's fast! Which kit did you get? Yes, I remember the focus is very fast. I tried AF Servo at the showroom and it seems to track quite well.

Unfortunately not... my time was limited at the showroom.

However, I did get permission to take a few photos with the 70D on one of my own cards.

All are jpeg's, straight out of the camera with zero processing except to downsize for the web. Lighting is not good in some parts of the showroom. Here are the results:

Wow, raydio. You're the first to molest the 70D, coming weekend will be
my turn to molest it. :bsmilie:
At first I thought of getting the 70D but looking at the price of the lenses I be getting.
I rather invest in a full frame body instead of aps-c, anyway this will also save the trouble
of upgrading again in the future.

I don't think I was the first to molest, but I guess I got there during the first day of its introduction.

As good as the full frames are, the 70D was actually pretty good too. I was quite impressed with the 70D but didn't have a lot of time to thoroughly test it out. Besides there's only so much one can do at the showroom.

I'm sure you'll have fun with it over the week-end but be prepared to stand in line... I'm guessing that there will be a lot of people wanting their turn at it too.

I'd be interested in your opinion of the 70D. :)

Look nice... very very tempted now... but I was saving up for a full frame at the moment though :)

The jpgs look promising. Do you have the exif for the last shot? Thanks.

Thanks!! iso 1000 looks decently clean. The new sensor might be the reason.

Last year I was invited to test the EOS 6D before the it was officially released.
Unforunately this year I don't have the chance to test the 70D before it was released. :(
No doubt there will be other people wanting to test the 70D so hopefully I have to chance to test it. :)
Can't wait to play with new gear again.

looking at dpreview, the photos at ISO 1600 seems very clean to use! this test photo at ISO 1000 double confirms it!

Here is the same photo cropped at 100%. No post processing. I picked an area that included shadows. The area did have great lighting to begin with.

Note: The original photo looks a little grainier in the shadows with a tiny bit of colour noise but it seems to be well controlled at ISO 1000.

compare to 5D mk3? how far do you think it is apart? since they use Digic 5+

Not far apart at all but the edge goes to the 5D3.
yeah, i go dpreview and compare the sample image again and again...

5DmkIII is better but 70D is not far apart base on ISO1600. it is on par with 5dMKII i would say. Impressive!

Yeah... I would think 5DmkIII should captured more details in higher ISO and is cleaner... no matter how good the 70D is... it is still an APS-C sensor while 5DmkIII is a FF (and quite a new one too).
