EOS 70D officially announced and previewed

I'll buy a handycam or blackmagic, if really cannot, I will go for 5DmkIII for my video need. I don't like the handling of Panasonic (for own personal reason, and not to say GH3 is bad or what), so GH3 appears to be at my lowest wants.
Thanks rhino really appreciate your post.

But why do you want to use the 5DM3 for video as it is not optimised for video ? I heard from owners of 5DM3 that the focusing is slow for video and most of them said if you have canon lens, then get the 70D for video as the focusing for 70D will be faster than 5Dm3.

Thanks

For the issue on quicking focusing, any serious videographer would not be using autofocus anyway, they would be using manual focusing. Yes, the 70D is quite quick to focus but remember, it may not focus on what you want to focus.

Holy cow the 70D is practically a 7D. Makes you wonder what they have up their sleeves for the 7D2 :)

That's because of competition :D
With competitors offers similar product with less cost, Canon must adjust their offer and price range
When launched, I feel that 7D is too much expensive for an APS-C camera

PS: Wonder too is there any 7D MkII ???

I'm talking about the kind of video AF where you let you the camera decide where to focus. And seriously, doing that kind of touchscreen AF on a video makes the video looks stupid.

Really? I thought the the original Canon video clip looks fabulous. The AF transition looks smooth and cool. It also demonstrates auto face-detect AF (when the cook peers into the fridge) works well. I suppose you must have created tons of video clips that surpass the above clip in quality. I have none, so what do I know?

I am sure cinema camera lens manufacturers must be fools because most, if not all, of the lenses they make are manual focus.

5DmkII is very very good with video actually... and 5DmkIII is better... plus I like the handling of Canon DSLR, so it range right at the top. Anyway, I don't use autofocus at all when I do videography, so I don't really care how quickly a camera autofocus in videography... I mean, I survive using my 7D to do short clips and I think I can too with 5DmkIII. GH3 had absolutely no temptation effect on me despite heaps of people singing praises over it.

Then I suppose Canon which manufactures and sells video stuff (BOTH cameras and lenses) from entry to professional level must be the greatest fool of them all. They sell those manual focus CN-E lenses in EF mount, yet they are also touting the 70D video AF capability. Who are they kidding, right?

Parisilk (Bedok) starts selling 70D, body @ $1320 ($1499 RRP). Check their FB for kits.

Called the Bedok branch. $1499 with GST which is the RRP listed on Canon SG. Was quoted $1320 cash price after gst.

Attractive price. Giving a run for the 7D second hand sets.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going to try live view PD AF with Sigma 30 f/1.4 lens using the touchscreen. Let's see how responsive and accurate the AF is.

Has anyone seen the Canon 70D make its way to the Canon Showroom at VIVO yet?

Although I don't plan on buying the 70D, I look forward to testing it.

I think that it will be an example of the things to come in future Canon cameras like the 7D2.

According to CR, the Canon 70D has already made its way into shops in Australia.

Will Canon's semi-pro and pro cameras get the touchscreen? Moving the AF box in live view is kinda slow (regardless of whether the joystick or multi-way button is used)...

Anyway, I find Canon's implementation of touchscreens in their DSLRs highly addictive. :bsmilie:
