I've been using HTP since I have 40D - dynamic range a little better and of course lesser blown out highlights but this is with cost of having more noise. I use this only for outdoor casual shoot where I process pictures with DPP. For proper projects, I use NONE of these features and use lightroom which is far more capable of handling RAW and especially recovering highlights.

Anyways, I find that 5DMII shutter is 'heavy', I can actually feel camera jitter a little when taking a shot but damn... 5D is 5D, magic pictures, can't wait to take it out for night landscape shots, as far as I know, this is where 5D magic happens, gradation of shadows and highlights... oooo....

Hi... just wondering (as I am using 30D with 17-40; 24-70; 70-200 2.8), if I switch to ff body like 5D or MkII will improve sharpness in picture.
Currently pic sharpness is not really good on my 30D (some say it is due to crop body).
Since you have both crop and ff bodies, please advise your opinion on sharpness issues if these lenses will perform better on ff bodies.
I thought of buying MK II.
Thanks a lot...:)

I don't think sharpness depends on the Crop or FF body,
it's about lens, speed and others than the body, except miss-allign or something

Actually, I've always thought FF sensors will render sharper pictures and I am STILL believing in this concept but not sure if it applies to just L lenses.

When i mount in my 50mm 1.4 i realised it no longer stay @ 50mm but maybe 30mm base on the same distance i used to shoot on a 1.6 crop i didn't know such a huge impart on a FF cam.

Regards
Cohen

Well, your 50/1.4 on your previous 1.6 crop camera was like a 80mm lens, but now on the 5D2, it's back to it's true 50mm focal length. And yes, it appears like a 30mm lens on a 1.6 crop camera because 30x1.6=48mm. Welcome to the world of FF goodness!

Well, I guess whether gain or loss will depend user to user but for me coming from 40D, I am just excited to see how my 24-105 now truly becomes my walk-around lens covering pretty much the best range for the day-to-day shooting.

So some uses HTP during day, while some uses at night

Auto light optimzer? PIC is Peripheral Illumination Correction

Read somewhere that HTP will be popular with wedding photographers or shooting in bright wintery conditions, cos it retains highlights?

But noise could be increased in shadow areas. So not suitable for night shots right?

Yes, its designed for 'bright' conditions. Of course you'll adjust the tone curve to retain the maximum amount of highlights. Which this happens, there is less infor in the shadows, thus more "noise" there. But most of the time, in these sort of 'bright' conditions, there is very little shadows to talk about. And if these are important, a little PP can cover it off quite easily.

"The 5D Mark II offers similar resolution to the Alpha 900, increases the sensitivity range to ISO 25,600, and offers high ISO/noise performance that gets close to the Nikon D700/D3. In short it - almost - offers the best of both worlds without costing the earth." :D

A store owner said sales of 5d2 is not good lately because of focusing issues. Like images are constantly OOF.

Anyone heard or came acroos that encounter?

Nope first time i have heard of that...neither have i encountered any focusing issues on my camera...can you furnish any details? Thanks

What settings of Auto Light optimizer do you guys use? Standard, Low or High

Everything except PIC is disabled for mine.

My friend shot this video on our recent trip, i just put it together.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZ-KhOgHscw (Watch it on HD)

Just some examples on the 5D Mark 2 Video abilities...

I am on a Nikon... But just love the capabilities of this camera.

Just a note.... I had to do an audio swap so i lost the natural sounds on the clip. And we didn't use a tripod.

I have a question.

Will the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG MACRO works well for the 5D Mark-II. I have used 17-70mm lens on non Canon and the sharpness is impressive.

Canon lens are so expensive.

Hi,

I recently tested the 85mm F1.2 (both Mark 1 and 2) on my friend's 5D Mark2. This lens is very difficult to use even in moderate indoor low light condition wide open. The pics done with this camera is constantly out of focus unless the person literally holds still.

The result is consistent with my older 20D when I use the lens in my friend’s wedding and many precious moments are ruined. These photos are done in one shot mode using the centre focusing point.

I wonder if the 1D mark3 is able to tame this beast and allow the lens to manifest its potential at full aperture without using flash.

Could anyone help to comment?
