Hi all,
I am planning to get a Canon 5D Mark II. Anybody knows which place sells it at best price?

Thanks!:)

Latest quote for body only is arnd $3800 and kit at $5200 cash terms. Should be able to get this price at the usual hangouts.

Just wanted to find out what file type are you shooting with, RAW, sRAW1 or sRAW2? Initially, I used RAW. No problems there except bloody BIG file sizes. Now, I'm experimenting with sRAW1. I tried the jpgs but didn't like it as I shoot a lot in challenging lighting conditions and jpgs didn't allow me to PP as much.

The thing is I will only see myself printing up to A3 sizes. I think sRAW1 will be enough. Just a tiny disadvantage in that I will not be able to crop as much as when I shoot in RAW. That's just means I have to start composing my shots properly from now on

Just come back from funan. Was told by the photo shop there said that 5DMkii is the best selling. Each day at least sell for 2 set. And 5Dmkii accessory always there is people asking buying...
Guess the bad economic don;t really hit s'pore... :)

i mostly use sRAW1... good enough for me :)

I guess those who are thinking of buying in the next 2 - 3 months, decided to buy now in
case price may increase.

Is there any difference (except maybe prices) between buying body only + 24-105mm separately and buying kit?

One thing i know the warranty for body is only local but for lens is international. What about kit? Is the warranty for kit only local?

TIA.

Hi... just wondering (as I am using 30D with 17-40; 24-70; 70-200 2.8), if I switch to ff body like 5D or MkII will improve sharpness in picture.
Currently pic sharpness is not really good on my 30D (some say it is due to crop body).
Since you have both crop and ff bodies, please advise your opinion on sharpness issues if these lenses will perform better on ff bodies.
I thought of buying MK II.
Thanks a lot...:)

It won't make a difference. There's no such thing as a FF sensor being sharper than APS-C ones. It's it's not sharp, can be your lens have front/back focusing probs, your hands shaky, shutter speed too slow and other factors.

Best is to try it on a tripod and use cable release.

^ Quite a number of Canon L lenses are optimized for FF or at most 1.3x crop bodies - which demand greater corner to corner sharpness/less vignetting as compared to lenses optimized for APS-C bodies, which demand greater centre sharpness (often at the cost of corner sharpness or vignetting). According to dpreview, the Canon 70-200 2.8 is optimized for full frame sensors and Nikon's 70-200 2.8 is optimized for crop sensors - so you might indeed get somewhat better sharpness.

Hi
Thanks for your reply and opinion...
In fact my 17-40 was calibrated for back focussing immediately after purchased. But 24-70 and 70-200 are quite ok.
Sometimes they are quite fairly sharp but not on most occassions.
Maybe I am looking for better sharpness like "Nikon" performance...
Or I should try with ff body to see if any difference in my mind.
Thanks a lot.... :)

I used to find pictures taken with 16-35 Mk2 on my 40D was a touch soft especially at 2.8
But since the switch to 5D Mk2, I am enjoying every photos taken with the same lens ;) so perhaps the 'L' lenses are optimised for FF?

I have a feeling of what you mentioned...
Therefore I need to get MkII and try out to be true...
Thanks a lot :)

Nikon's only more saturated on colours due to sensor manufactured by Sony. Sharpness, no difference.

Those who are getting this cam better be prepared to upgrade your system. Time to for me to go to the next phase of the planning. Tomrrow, 16 gig CF cards, external harddisk and setting a new rig!

Im reviewing all the reviews:o on 5d2 - migrating to canon:D Bro my PC system is:
AMD athlon 64processor - 2.21GHz + 1GB Ram + external 500GB harddisk + NVIDIA Geforce 7600GT

Can the above system run the 5d2 using Gimp2 PP?

Currently D200+Sony camcorder - migrating cos of the HD video of 5d2 its amazing: http://exposureroom.com/members/RomyOcon.aspx/assets/bbc7b6a977dd440b9e54115d37ac6159/ video doc. by Mr. Romy Ocon Philippines 'bird specialise'.

I video n doc. birds(hobby) n 5d2 suit it very well, it also helps in 'lesser equip.' best of all the canon tele-lens n what an excuse to go FF!

But like all equipments there are 'pros & cons' looking at Mr. kenrockwell's review he seem to be having
*$$)*m'th'rf''ck'ng'ss'l'ck'ng'sh't!
http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/5d-mk-ii.htm issue with 5d2...LOL

Doing bird photography its best to have a fast cam. another excuse to get a sec. body the 1d2:bigeyes:(ssshh not so loud must not let wiffy know:sweatsm:)

cheers

Er....not enough lah, you need more rams for processing and harddisk memories for the raw and video files. :)

Mine is Core i7 920 with 6 gig ram, graphic: Geforce 280 GTX. One 1Tera internal harddisk and one 2Tera external harddisk. The internal harddisk is about to be filled up soon.

:o: looks like i have to upgrade PC first - im thinking of the iMac pump ram to 4gb & load 1TB external...wallet left dust:cry: bros urs is worse 1TB full!:o u've been busy. Total cost probably 10K camera+lens+PC+assecories...help if i stay with my current PC i just need to pump the rams - bro whats the cost fr rams now? oh n whats ur brand 1Tera.

thks:D

Went to check out extended eye piece for 5DmkII. They say new one is the EP-EX15 II. When i tested it i saw the viewfinder's view was 'shrunk' after attaching the eye piece. Saw in some threads that you can remove the mag glass in order not to shrink it. Any idea how?

The eyepiece extender for 5D2 is the EP-EX15. The EP-EX15 II is not for the 5D2. II version does not mean it's a replacement model for the original in this instance.
