Yea but you cannot use AF with video with sound. U can record video without sound, then u can use AF, but the AF will be slow, cos its using live view AF (contrast). MF also slow if you want to zoom in and zoom out often, but with practice should be faster lah.

go J3:16 ;)

tomorrow, that is.

This 500D really very good after test it, i almost give up my 40D ;p

hey 500D do not have Audio input interface. Which means Audio recording might be terrible at times.

Most people will not bother to bring external mikes to plug in even if an audio interface is available. The only DSLR with audio input interface is the Canon 5D Mk II I think. So if you're serious enough about Full HD movie recording with plug-in mike, you'd have to be going for that!

how's the speed of the photo taking?

it's only 3.4fps as compared the the 450D - 3.5fps.

and ur 40D is 6.5fps....

loads of difference right?

How much did Sam quote you for 50D?

I was at vivio canon today and saw something shocking awesome. Why do they fit a grey color looking plastic 18-55mm toy lens to the demo SLR. I have never seen a lens like that.

come to think of it... a DSLR with video recording is good and useful but dun u guys find it heavy to carry and shoot the video? i rather use my pns to do it... much lighter and compact, hence i decided to stick to 450D. (if this is the feature that lures those who want to buy and not cos of those improvements like Digic IV etc)

if u guys want video.. just get those taiwan brand that does 720p for $250 and probably it will gives u good enough video minus the good lens u get from the SLR (so no bokeh at all in ur video shoot from cheap camcorders)

bagus. i'm going down to try it out tomorrow:sweatsm:

tried the 500d today, nothing really special i can say. the LCD is amazing and the video function is easily activated. The user interface is pretty unique also.

i dunno about you guys but to me, having video capability in a DSLR camera is a bit too much to ask for already. Its a feature I dont think shooters would use on an equal or more frequency than taking photos, otherwise just get a PnS with video or a videocam.

I can see it in my head... a shooter catching an event in video using DSLR. it looks... hmmm... funny i guess. no offense.

just my thought.:dunno::dunno::dunno:

i feel exactly the same way. it kinda reminds me of handphones trying their darned hardest to make a super camera on a hp body rather than improve on the phone.

soon you'll see a dslr capable of becoming a webcam and do phone calls with a sim card slot (DISGUST!)

I guess it depends on what type of shooting the person is interested in.

Eg. I'm currently trying out sports-photography. While it's great fun to learn the right way to pan or deliberate target-blur for sense of motion, there could be times I'd want to capture a segment in video instead. If the vid activation is straight-forward, then that definitely fits the bill - instead of reaching for a PnS or vidcam, then try to capture the vid before the moment is over.

Of course, if you're into portraits or landscape, then the cam-vid hybrid won't do you much good...

To me the video function is only a complement for the primary function of DSLR, which is Still photography. Personally, I would only use the video function to capture the motion and sound. My video clips are usually between 10-20sec. I think if anyone is serious about covering an event with video, they will not be using a DSLR due to the AF, or rather the lack of continuous AF.

I would think that video and DSLR will eventually converge more seamlessly, but in the meantime, I'm glad there is a video function on the 500D :)
