EOS 500D released in SGP

there are 3 items which you must pay attention on with regards to the new 500D over the previous 450D.

1) 920K dots LCD on 500D vs the 230k dots LCD on 450D

2) Digic 4 sensor on 500D vs the Digic 3 sensor on 450D

3) Movie recording on 500D vs 450D with normal live view

As per the above we can see the direct difference in 500D, if you dont mind for these xtra features then you might want to consider the 450D.

4) 15.1 million effective pixels (12.2 million on 450D)
5) ISO 12800 (ISO 1600 on 450D)
6) 3.4 fps up to 170 JPEG/9 RAW (3.5 fps up to 53 JPEG/6 RAW)

If you don't need all of the above, you can save the $$$, get the 450D and use the $$$ daved to get better lenses, accessories.....

Haaa. That wasn't my objective. The reason I posted it is that I am quite impressed on what can be achieved with the kit lens and the dof of the video.

not to mention there is very little noise during the dark birthday cake scene.. :thumbsup::thumbsup:

take the same scene with a consumer video cam and it will be all grainy

dont get carried away.. the noise will be low in 500D's video with the larger ccd and good lens.. but for most mid range videocam, u still need good image stabilizer and from what i understand, the IS in lens will not help much in the video mode.

anyway, to cut short, the video gonna be good.. but still wont replace a good camcorder (but such camcorder will cost u at least same px/more then then the 500d kit)

Ya i agree. Depend on what's the promotion like though. ;p My first 350D they gave the grip free at the show.

i would like to upgrade my 350D to this.. any idea how much would a 500D w/ 100mm f2.8 usm macro lens would cost? only parisilk allows mix and match for now right?

i really dun want the kit lens as i'm planning to get a 2nd hand 17-55mm f2.8 usm IS

I went down today to parisilk but was unable to test it... had to head down to Courts @ jurong point to test instead ;p

I was quoted $364 w GST at Parisilk for 55-250mm len. In the end, I went for the 18-200mm. I must say I'm enjoying every moment of my 500D+18-200mm :heart::thumbsup::kiss:

I did ask them whether i can get the kit 2 lens (18-200) but was rejected flatly... Told me that the kit 2 set will be shipped in ard early May 09 and to get it then... :sweat:

Guess too many pple bought the body only and thus he has too much kit 1 lens couped up.

when i went on sat mid noon, he showed me all e kit lens behind him.
had a short glimpse, saw ard 6-7 but.. there could be more.

I guess they may have run out of 18-200 from 450D kit II to trade-in with the 500D kit I len

I am not fascinated by the HD video capability because I always feel that hybrid products never perform better than the dedicated machines.

Well, previously, you'd need to buy the professional series of Canon camcorders if you want felxibility in changing lens. With these new DSLR, it offers you a wide range of creativity for video as you can now change lens and adjust the DOF as you like it. Consumer grade camcorders are really not as capable. Anyway if you dont use it then take it as another feature which you do not use - like those auto modes.....

What resist and hate the advancement in technology? When you guys weren't playing with Digital SLRs, and the film reigned the day, old folks on film were disgusted with capturing images on memory chips. Digital conversion?! Pui!

And the CDs replaced vinyl which was supposed to be smooth and easy on the ears? The old folks went PUI! again.

Where are we today?

Video is there, love it or hate it, it will be a big part of the digital age. We never had it before because technology wasn't good enough to process 1920x1080 pixels 30 fps in a small little chip. Today, we can. Tomorrow, we'll be doing better. No matter how well shot a photograph is, it doesn't move you like a similarly well shot video, with sound.

video capability in a dslr camera is more of going hybrid i agree, its not about replacing the dslr. "digital to film" and "vinyl to cd" is replacing old with new technology. and I have to agree that hybrids do not really perform as well. just my thought...

I've recorded a few video with 500D. Although the sound is in Mono, I found it acceptable and in no way worse off than any PNS camera I've used before. Of course dedicated Video Camera with Stereo audio will record and produce better sound.
